Hi! I would like to know if we i upgrade the processor of Acer aspire V5-131 Netbook.
I know that i have to replace it with a BGA station because it's soldered on MB but this i not a big deal...Who has the skills and knows how to do it, it will be easy...
Chipset of this netbook is HM70 and supported processor list is here: http://ark.intel.com/products/67419/Intel-BD82HM70-PCH#@compatibility
I was wondering if it's possible to install a 35W processor like 2030M. Voltage regulators from the MB will support this processor? I ask because normally this laptop is coming with 1007u which is 17W processor or there is one more version of V5-131 with 17W processor 2117u but i don't think that will make a big change after i'll replace with 2117U.
If we cannot install 2030M, the best processor for this netbook will remain 2127U or 1037U.
I forgot to mention that 1007u has socket BGA1023 and 2030M has G2...
    Thank you!

While I don't know if voltage regulators will support this CPU, there are other potential issues - PSU output might be too low (it's 40W if I'm not mistaken), BIOS will almost certainly not support the microcode for that CPU (resulting in an error and need to press F1 to continue at every boot) and TDP of 35W will almost certainly be a problem for a netbook with a cooling system not designed for that amount of heat.

Well, it means that we can use only 17W processors and also i don't think that BGA1023 is the same with G2. It is true regarding PSU but we can use one with higher current output but regarding cpu cooling it will fail...Maybe without that plastic cover and additional fan will be ok but in the end this is a netbook...

    Regarding cpu tests:
    For 1007U is here: https://cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+1007U+@+1.50GHz&id=1847
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    For 2127U is here:
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Pentium+2127U+@+1.90GHz
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    For 1037U is here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+1037U+@+1.80GHz
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
At the end i would choose 2127U.
It is worth replacing 1007U with 2127U for a better performance?
    What is your opinion?

By the way? There is no any option to overclock this CPU (1007U)?

    Thanks!

Replacing 1007U with 2127U seems like a pretty significant jump in performance so performance wise it might be worth it. What about BIOS support or lack thereof for this CPU's microcode though? Was v5-131 ever offered with this CPU?

I don't think you can OC 1007U bu the way.

Acer already produces aspire V5-131 with 2117u and "i hope" it will gonna support 2127U as well in my opinion.
Long time ago i had one aspire 5315 with a low performance celeron and after i read here on forum i upgraded with T9500 wich was a very "big" difference but bigger than T9500 i couldn't use because of FSB... I cannot say that is the same situation as V5-131 with U2127 but i think this netbook deserves more and even 2127U will be the best for it, i would try to replace 1007U.

One year ago i upgraded my V5-131 with 2x4GB of ram @1600MHz and also i replaced the hard drive with MQ02ABF100 - 1TB from Toshiba and i use it daily and also when i travel is perfect for me. Regarding gaming i can play GTA IV and also V at low graphic settings even it is not designed for that, anyway i'm not a gamer... GPU has 6.2 gaming score in WEI and RAM memory 7.5 score but processor only 5.4 which will lower the performance a lot...

To be 100% sure about 2127U how we can verify if the bios will gonna support it?

I'm not an expert on modifying BIOS so I don't know exactly how do you check the list of supported CPUs either.
The problem is that the most recent BIOS is 1.09 from Dec 2012 (not counting the 2.21 which seems to be just UEFI) - so 2117U might as well be supported considering that CPU had been launched in Q3 2012 whereas 2127U has been launched in Q3 2013 so almost a year after BIOS 1.09 had been released.

This means there is pretty much no chance of 2127U being supported by 1.09 BIOS.

As for 2.21 it might be different but I'm not sure if you can flash it (I think these were separate series) and even if you could - if it adds support for new CPU microcodes or is it just an UEFI version.
