    I'm considering buying the Acer Aspire Ethos 8943, partly because the Toshiba Qosmio has notoriously bad customer support where I live (UK and Sweden).

    Does anyone know what Acer are like in this respect?

    Thanks.

    When my graphics card died and I was still in my 3 year warranty period, I got my laptop back with a new card in 2 weeks.

    That was good, except for the short flickering of the screen sometimes.

    Plus UPS could pick it up for free hours after I called them.

    @Meaker: Care to elaborate?

    "Pretty bad" = they didn't collect it, fix it, charged too much... what?

    In continental Europe it's rather good. Does UK have its own service centre or is it the same old (Czech Republic I think)?
    I don't know if we're talking about the same thing.

    In the UK, their support is terrible. Before I found this forum I was asking if my 8930G could fit a Q9100, what processors the latest bios spports etc. This was 6 months ago and after 3 emails I've still not had any answers.

    Acer Support has always been bad but I don't need the support (Check carefully before buying) & I like the cheap and powerful hardware.

    I've heard it's bad, but my sole experience of them was OK. I bought a Ferrari One and the cooling fan went noisy a week out of the box. They arranged a repair and collection, and I got it back in a week with a new thermal module fitted. It's been fine ever since.

    My Mum has an older Aspire something or other and the PSU died on it about six months from purchase. She called them up and got a new one out of them without much hassle.

    I recently had a small issue with the wireless being inverted in windows 7 and I got in touch with Acer Europe UK support. I'm from Romania but from local Acer site I was redirected to the European support site where Romania was not listed and the only language that I was able to use was English so I chose the UK support.

    I didn't got any useful information from them. I believe they are located somewhere in India (judging by their names) and I felt like I was talking with robots. I believe they copy/paste prefabricated text when replying.

    I eventually solved the problem by myself by finding the appropriate driver on their FTP.

    I had to wait 10 weeks for a replacement on a machine that arrived to my door dead. Which is actually illegal in the UK for it to take that long.
