ok guys, I managed to recover my Alt+F10 option !!!!! Now when the recovery starts ,and when its almost complete, I get these messages
Fail in creating or opening a file
Cannot find file C:\preload.tag
Cannot find file D:\preload.tag
Cannot find file X:\preload.tag
I didnt alter my drives, they are all FAT32. If you read my previous thread, I formatted C and installed XP PRO. Than I got hang of the Acer MBR files, placed them in C, and the Alt+f10 function started working.
Another point to be noted, I got these errors when I had the factory installed windows XP home edition aswell
How do I fix this to restore my original factory settings ?
-
the easy answer may be to spring for a copy of the QUICK RESTORE DISKS
acer sells them,, even if they claim they don't... just call back and try a different Customer Service Rep. -
gee thanks, but is there still anyway to fix this error without the CDs ?
P.S can those CDs be availabe online ? -
also I heard that I can download the Acer eRcovery software and still do the same recovery via windows XP PRO. do u know where I can get Acer eRecovery software ?
-
why do you need the ACER DISKS??
just load XP on the machine and install the drivers
what model is the laptop,, i was going to make sure all the drivers you need are available -
Because I liked the laptop better in its factory default settings.
My laptop is the 3620 series, exact model is 3623 -

Ok ... lets see
Your current information about your system is very poor , so to get help at easy.
I set up my new hard drive , by the ACER way of making things .
Correct names in all partitions , and i used different partition size at ACER & ACERDATA .
From the time that i did that i also get the message .. Cannot find file C:\preload.tag , but i press ok , and the process still goes, and does all the work.
1) I am confused with your words , Do you have the hidden PQSERVICE partition ?
2) We never call the PQSERVICE as C:
3) How large are the C: and D: ?
.
Acer eRcovery is messing up ! im getting the "Cannot find file C:\preload.tag" error. PLEASE HELP
