I just bought a nice little Acer Aspire 3050. I know I know..not huge and certainly not for gaming, but I just use it when I go on the road etc.
I really like the thing...except for one teeny tiny issue.
Vista..no choice. Thats not the problem.
acer power technology. I swear, I'm not an idiot, but I just waht this to go away. Seriously...
and...to make matters worse..I can't uninstall it to free up some memory.
help? Is anyone else going through this? I can't even find anything on google. suggestions? please? I'm desperate.

Try stopping it from starting up.
If there is an exe associated with acer power technology you can try to stop from starting up by clicking on the vista buttom and in the search bar put 'msconfig'. in Msconfig, click on the Startup tab and uncheck the acer power technology( i have no idea what its called) and restart. This is should stop if from staring up but it will still be on your hard drive. If you have any problem, then just recheak the box.

thanks guys. If just removing it from the start up would free up some memory, then I'd do that in a heartbeat. But,..thats not it. :(
I need to actually uninstall and get the thing out of there. I have tried reinstalling vista, but arghh....I am seriously thinking of returning this laptop. I have one week to decide of I want to keep it. I am hating e-crap so much right now that I am considering it.
    thanks though....
has anyone tried to uninstall it and actually remove it?

Well as yuio said I am on XP so I don't know how vista does things BUT on my acer I have empowering technology well under control, I have removed most of its components like acer elock and epower manager or whatever it is called via add/remove programs and kept the important one e-recovery and the empowering framework itself (this is what empowering technology runs on, if you remove that the aforementioned components cannot load) . Now the empowering technology only starts when I tell it to by selecting it from the start menu. I did this by simply disabling it's exe from windows start up and its gone ( I like calling the shots when it comes to start up processes on my comp :D )

Anyway on xp the empowering technology framework exe is found in the directory

    C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\Acer.Empowering.Framework.Launcher.exe

As I said if it were XP I could tell you exactly what to do but you have vista and I am not familiar with any current version of vista...

I think I am allergic to acer empowering technology. When I try to configure it..I break out in a huge headache.
ALL of its components are un-uninstallable.
I'm the only one on this computer. Why is it so hard for me to make changes?
    arghhh

I did however, stop it from staring up. Which...is better than nothing. I'm still going to find a way to get rid of it. Wish me luck. Oh and Thank you for your help.

it won't let me. i see that screen, but when i try to uninstall it, is says enmtray something. and it won't let me. not any of the acer power technology.
    i am so frustrated.
hell...i'll even reinstall this crap just so i don't get these errors every time i want to use something. (It is desabled...but welcome to vista)...however..
it won't let me install it again.

    new question..
how can do the repair system thing and put those programs back on? my boot up disk that future shop *gag* gave me is a burned copy. they said it was a reboot worth 125.00 and i was getting it for free. woot. not. there is no .exe file.

i am calling the store back today to see if can take this piece of useless garbage back..or see if they will put a decent working operating system on it. I swear...every time someone takes something to Future Shop for technological repair...they walk out more damaged than they went in.

but...thank you. for your help. I don't think that screen was from vista...it looks like xp? maybe? not too sure.
    but again..thanks for trying.

I just formatted my pc with vista on it and reinstalled XP, I couldn't handle that crap of an OS that Microsoft is trying to push on people.... what a joke.

But the applications and software work the same on vista as well as XP. Both can be used, both can be removed.
