I installed ubuntu on my laptop through a flash drive. I then loaded up Super Grub from a CD to remove ubuntu and grub to restore Windows boot menu because I preferred XP, I followed the instructions from Super Grub menu, and I was sent directly to the Acer erecovery. I decided to restart my laptop after that, reset everything in the bios, including boot order, but now my laptop keeps booting up acer erecovery, even after going through the process. Wondering if anyone can help me restore my laptop. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Are you booting into the recovery partition (if you have one?)
In my GRUB, the first Vista option is a my recovery partition, and the second is the real vista.

The tricky part is that they are named the exact same thing

I don't think I have a partition set up...? After I used the Super Grub disk so I could restore Windows boot menu (to then delete the Ubuntu partition), Acer Erecovery instantly appeared on my screen instead of being sent to my Windows XP partition like it's suppose to do. After Acer Erecovery showed on my screen, I exited from it which then my computer restarted. Acer Erecovery showed up again, I decided to go through with the recovery this time around, when it completed, it restarted my computer, and this time Acer Erecovery showed up again!!! I don't know how many times I've actually gone through the restore process just to see if it actually does something, but nothing, it just keeps showing up over and over after rebooting. Bios has been set completely to default, so I have no idea what else to do.

You need Fdisk to set the C: partition as Active = Bootable .

Then you need to restore the ACER MBR , read the first link on my signature.

You are very lucky , that your hidden erecovery partition , are still there and works.

    Hello Kiriakost,
I have a similar problem which I can't find a solution and hope you may help.
Recently I bought an Acer netbook and split the hard disk into 2 partitions. Than I wanted to use Acer e-recovery to get C: cleanly recovered. But somehow now the e-recovery can not do this recovery function properly even if it's finished, it turns back on after restarting the system. When I restart I see the same screen.

I noticed e-recovery tries to install back on D: (which is the new partition) instead of C: So I think I need to find a way to cancel the split hard disk. Can I use fdisk for this? If yes, could you please tell me how to open the computer to put the fdisk comment without seeing this e-recovery screen again.

Thank you very much in advance...

    Thanks...

I do not know how netbook erecovery works .

If your netbook came with a single partition ,does not look possible to create a backup , other than just restore the Factory default only ..

Do you have an Aspire one ?

Yes I do have the Aspire one.Somehow the erecovery is trying to do the recovery on new partition instead of C: and it can't. I'll have to return it back and ask for repair :-(

I'll see if I can boot Linux through USB tonight. If I can maybe I'll find a tool in Linux to do the partition back to single.

I guess your system is hosted. I suggest you do a 1:1 partition backup using Acronis/Ghost in the future

This will possibly do the trick , beware to not overwrite the ACER MBR ..
