I'm considering purchasing a new laptop (maybe not Acer) but if I can find a easy way to fix my current one I can wait a little while.

It's been months and months now and my laptop screen hasn't been working correctly. There's no consistent pattern e.g. it was working then it would flicker or it would work in a certain position or it totally went off etc. et. So for some time I have been using a external monitor but recently I have had times when the screen has somehow turned on and managed to stay on for a few hours but that seems to ave stopped. Or it comes on for a few seconds then turns off.

I have been told it could be either of two things in the laptop that could cause the screen to not work properly. However since it is one of two things I could either be spending little or ore than £75. To find out I would have to take it to a repair shop who charge to look at it as well if there is a fault. I'm not sure i I could fix it myself but once again if it is a expensive fault it's still a lot of money.

Does anyone here know of this problem? Is it common with all laptops or acer only? I have spent money on two or three chargers, the power socket to get it soldiered since I can't do it myself, and to fix more, I might as well buy a more reliable laptop. I have to say I have had this or a few years and it's been great but it's difficult using a external monitor with this.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix my laptop at the lowest cost or whether I should simply go buy a new one.

Try removing and fit the screen cable, may be there's a loose connection or get a replacement somewhere like ebay and fix, they aren't very expensive.

Thank you for your reply. I have not clue about how to do this though.
