I run a small VAR in the UK, and for the past few years have always recommended Acer based on the good products and service. Our own company had some 20 Acer laptop/Desktops No more. I had it with them and I strongly recommend anyone else thinking of buying Acer to think long and hard!

The problems seem to start, when they moved to Plymouth, where I'm also based. When they first opened, and installed a new telephone system I frequent joined the queue at say position 8 or 10, got to No 1 then was cut off!

The latest episode involved a £1200 Aspire 9100. It arrived and the cooling fan was on constantly. Rang Tech support, they suggested that I switch off computer and see what happended following morning. Next morning rang them again to advise fan was still continually running when they declared it DOA>

At this point I would have expected a replacement to be sent. But no, they asked for the computer and said that they had 72 hours to decide what the problem was and if they would repair or replace.

5 working days later, 4 calls to their tech support, three promised returned phone calls which never arrived, one unanswered fax, they emailed me to tell me that they had repaired comoputer, which duly arrived back today. Switch on, book up to desktop and guess what....fan still running continually...

Trying to contact them was impossible today. continually getting cut off when getting to fronyt of queue. Ha, thought I ring their sales office... guiess what, that wasw being diverted to a mailbox which announced it was full.........

I guess that Acer are getting so big that they dont need my support, so I'm off to find another manuafcturer who can offer a decent level of service. In the menatime, will go and park myself outside their offices tomorrow and get some action hopefully.

That was always the knock on Acer as long as I can remember -- crappy support. I asked someone about it once, and they actually suggested that if I have any problems don't even bother calling Acer, that basically their support was nonexistent.
