i purchaed Acer One with 120GHD, 1G Ram, Xp home and of course 3 cell battery for $399.

loved the screen (it is very nice) and keyboard is nice as well but fan is *ON* ALL the time.. draining battery.. best time is about 1:50min

i wanted to see if this is normal for Acer One , so i got 2nd Acer one but exactly same issue "Fan is ON all the time". battery only last less then 2 hours..

Is this normal for A1? any other A1 Win Xp user feedback?

How does XP perform in this model? I can tolerate the fan and battery life, at least until I can upgrade the battery.

Thats a real shame with the loud fan, I was thinking of buying the $399 model. :(

The reason for the short battery life is because the current models use a 3 cell battery, a 6 cell battery will be released soon and there are some models with the battery already packaged that gives from 5 to 7 hours of battery life I hear.

Considering how much you get for $400 compared to the more expensive EEE 901 and MSI Wind, I can't complain much! :)

agreed..for $399.. all the bells and whistles.. very very impressed fit and finish and especially. 8.9 Glossy screen..is the best in the market...

only the only complain is "fan" is ON 100% time draining battery to yield medicore 2 hours batt life.

i had a chance to stop by to check out "Lipus Linux" version.. the fan noise is more quieter than Win Xp version.. that was somewhat interesting..

could it be just *wrong" ACPI driver for windows?

    man i miss A1...

I can assure that you are not the only one.
I got one last month and the FAN IS LOUD. Kudos to Acer for stuffing a freaking airplane in there. The thing is louder than my MBP; but then I am prolly spoiled by the MBP since its so quiet. It is such a shame though because i like everything else about this little computer, but the fan noise is just intolerable.

Well the linux varient that I have in my store has been super quiet when I've been using it. It's on all day with people coming in and trying it out and I have never heard the fan kick in at all. Granted it's also the varient with an 8GB SSD too. I didn't think it had a fan it was so quiet.

Using my acer aspire one XP model now... it is definitely gorgeous, well built, and boot up really fast!! but this fan noise.. .while not high pitched like everyone says, does seem like its working quite hard and spinning fully all the time,,,, not sure if its needed with the ATOM cpu which should be cool, but the fan noise is definitely noticeable.

Was waiting for MSI wind which everyone says is whisper quiet, but I guess i could not wait anymore and pay the higher price too.. 8.9 inches is very comfortable to type on and I'm 5'11....LED is gorgeous... I guess at 349, cant have everything, maybe acer will come out with a fan/bios fix, until then.. 349 is best bang for the buck. Just remember, we didnt spend 2000 for a sony tz........ and this baby with xp runs faster than a 2k sony.
