    Hi there,
My father-in-law is looking for a new laptop and I found one that suits his needs and price range, but he's not convinced Acer is a brand he wants to own. Here's what I found:

    Acer Aspire AS5552-3942
    AMD® Athlon™ II P340 dual core processor, 2.2 GHz
    4 GB DDR3 SDRAM
    640 GB SATA, 5400 rpm
    15.6-in. HD display with Acer® CineCrystal™ technology, 1366 x 768 (native)
256 MB (shared) ATI Radeon™ HD 4250 graphics

I'm in Canada and the price here is $509.99 plus taxes to get it delivered to my door, and the seller (Costco) extends the manufacturer's warranty to 2 years. Does anyone know of any reasons not to purchase this? It seems like the most bang for his buck that I've found.

There have been no quality issues with Acer notebooks at least since Gemstone Blue design has been launched let alone now with those Acers with metal chassis. German notebookcheck seems to be pretty happy with this notebook- the only potential drawback is battery time. If it's not important than you should be fine with it although it's always safer to go and see a unit yourself at some shop before you decide.
