I hate Acer with a burning passion. Bought a computer in the summer of 2005, had to send it in 10 times (including twice when I sent it in, got it back, and had to send it right back). In Jan '08 they just got fed up, and sent me a refurbished replacement. I immediately had to send that in in February because the screen died. Then it worked fine for a while.
However, this April I sent it in because it just died. They replaced the ram, and sent it back. I got it back, and it died within 3 hours. They sent it back, and replaced the motherboard. Now I have it back, it works perfectly, except it doesn't detect the touchpad! AHHHH
So my question is, what can I do to avoid having to help Acer break their own record of back-to-back-to-back repairs?

throw it down the stairs and call it a day

they must have records of all the repairs, so tell them the unit is not fit for purpose and you want a refund or a new replacement unit.
never know it could work. -
Well, I could just send it in for them to fix the touchpad, but I am trying to find a way that I don't have to be without a computer (it works with an external mouse). Any productive suggestions?

Customer support people hate hearing the words "lawsuit," "Better Business Bureau," "formal complaint," and "legal action."
Use them in sentences that show exactly how displeased you are when you call Acer, and see what they do. -
Sounds good, but I would much rather quickly remedy this problem at home. Is there anyway?

check device manager first if its showing it could just be a driver problem.
check in the error logs for synaptics.
you could download the latest drivers.
before you install them delete all traces of the old drivers, then remove the pointing device.
once you have done that restart laptop.
this should then tell you at start-up a new device has been found.
load the drivers you have downloaded.
let us know if that works.Attached Files:
