A friend's kid locked his Acer travelmate 2201WLC completely by setting a bios password.
The laptop is an "acer travelmate 2201WLC".
I do have the password but that doesn't help me since I can't even access the keyboard. Nothing boots at all, it just shows a password screen and I really can't reach the bios screen (or insert any password).
I assume this means I need to open it and remove the CMOS battery?
That isn't really working for me.
I tried removing every possible screw I found but it still doesn't open...
I've been googling for a (hardware) manual without success.
global.acer.com doesn't seem to have one and neither could I find one in the "acer sticky" above...
Any suggestions?
PS: Since I can't even use my keyboard (or an external USB one), could this be an even worse problem?
The USB keyboard does light up if I attach it, but I still can't type anything![]()
Any help would be really appreciated,
Jens.

remove the cover where the thermal module for the CPU is; underneath the stick of RAM there are two small contacts (they my be hidden by a sticker); when you find them remove the battery and short out the two contacts for about 10 seconds, reassemble the unit and the password should be cleared.

Thank you Hairy_Lee (a LOT).
I did short those contacts and it's all working again
PS: Sorry for the late reply.
