O.K. this beep is driving me crazy. It's about 1 second long and is totally random. Its definitly not a system beep as I disabled that in hidden devices of the hardware manager. I also disabled the sound system speakers. It seems to be coming from inside the bloody laptop. I don't think this motherboard has a pc speaker as the system beeps come from the system speakers. Maybe it's a thermal problem but where is the sound coming from? Do any laptop components make noises that sound like a beep. eg. the modem, hard drive, cdrom etc. etc. I contacted Acer they have no idea and said take it to a service depot. Which I'll probably have to do. The laptop runs great though but my son can't take to college because it will dissrupt the class. Has anyone else had this problem. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply,
I haven't tried safe mode. It did beep once while booting up. When I am in bios setup if I press the wrong key I get a beep but this comes through the system speakers. The annoying beep seems to be coming from inside the laptop. I will try safe mode and I'll let it sit at the bios setup and I'll also let it sit at the recovery console but it can beep once a day or once an hour. It's pretty random. I doubt that the techs at Acer will be able to find the problem either. If the problem is ever solved I'll post it. This is a really goofy one.
