Ok... my sister has a 2480 acer travelmate and i need to recover it, shes thrown away the box AND the cd's as she is completely ignorant on that kinda stuff

is there anyway to access the recovery partition without the cd?

ive tried alt f10 with d2d on that doesnt work, i can reinstall XP pro and do the driver install (gueessing what order the drivers in getting wrong and starting again! probably hah)

but shes learnt vista now and i sure as hell dont want to teach her an OS all over again..

    can anybody help?

You need the recovery CDs to do it, so if she lost them then that's that. There is no wrong or right way to install drivers, it doesn't make a difference in what order you install them.

And XP is no different than Vista. I mean what does she need to know? You double click on things to open them, there is my computer, my documents, the task bar at the bottom, the start button at the bottom left, IE is the same, task manager is the same...

It's quite easy to do if you have time. There are two solutions:
    1. There's an emergency dvd image somewhere on that partition in cases like these.
    2. Restore the original MBR file from the hidden partition
Google it how to do it.

Are you sure that they're exactly the same? If so, there's no problem to use eRecovery on the second one to create a recovery dvd.
Oh, and BTW, if you forgot your eRecovery passwd, just PM me, I can help you. It's not allowed to share that kind of info in public - it isn't safe.
