I bought an Acer a year ago in Canada, it had problems when I returned to Europe so I visited the Acer representative and they deneid to repair my laptop under warranty which wasn't rightful according to their ITW regulations. I read a lot about ITW regulations but I still think rightfully I should get my laptop repaired. I needed my laptop fast so I payed for the reparation. I couldn't get the laptop out from service personally so I couldn't complain that the laptop wasn't repaired but they got 100$ with approx. no work.
My battery isn't charging up, only until 6-7% and if it's turned on with when its "charged" it doesn't responds. I have no idea what should I do. I made a webpage about my problem, please visit it and learn from my mistake, don't buy acer if you are traveling a lot.

    with regards

I think you don't want to waste 1000$..

if you got the plan, that does not include the travelers warrenty then they could /would turn you down. also if you don't register your computer's extra warrenty it is void.

when i needed a repair, i called acer support but long story short i was going away for 2 weeks and the warrenty would have ended if i waited that long, they said ok well, two options we extend your warenty another 30 days or you can ship it to use right now rather than us picking it up form you.

i ended up shipping to them for time sake but still, it worked out very well, it took them a week to fix it(including the shipping time) ...

Are you buy from an Acer Authorized Dealer at Canada?
What's the Store name you buy from.....?
Are they listed on Acer Dealer list?
Maybe you are saving like $20 when you buy your lappy
at store that is not a dealer! So, you got No Warranty!

Um, okay maybe it's the english, but I'm lost.

It sounds like you brought a Acer, with the Canadian Warrenty, in which case while you are in canada they will repair it, however you moved back to Eastern Europe, thus invalidating the warrenty.

    Is that a fair statement?

I can confirm that the Acer warranty/service is crap. My PCI Express video card (5102WLMi) is stuck running in PCI mode, and so the performance is terrible. I called Acer support, waited on hold, and then got a load of crap about how they could not talk to me about my problem because I have installed Windows XP Pro instead of the Media Center Edition that came preinstalled. (WTF!?) So I asked if they could send me a reinstall disk, since the laptop didn't ship with one and I didn't make backups because I didn't care for the factory installation in the first place (and the backup partition now has Linux installed on it). They said sure, they could sell me one for $40! I had to ask to talk to a manager twice before I got my $0.02 piece of plastic under warranty, and now I'll have to wait, and install MCE, and then go through the whole process from the start.

Hizaguchi, basically both of those are your problem not acers.

    1. you SHOULD make backup CD's (like the system tells you to) if you don't, that's your fault.

    2. Unfortunately because of problems with OS's no notebook manufacturer is going to guarantee that things will work under anything but "factory fresh" conditions, I realise this can be fustrating (especially to those of us who know a good amount about computers) however driver issues could be causing the problems similar to what you mention.

hey consider yourself lucky. at least you were given your oppurtunity to speak with a manager. when I was talking with my clownface of a tech support person he said they dont have managers, they have "team leaders". So I ask if i can speak with a "Team Leader" then and he says no. He actually REFUSED to transfer me to someone above him, or who might actually know what they're talking about. (My restore cd's will not restore my travelmate C110, and because the hard drive was made into 1 NTFS partition instead of their stupid 2 FAT32 partitions, he tried to say I altered the hardware and my warranty is now void.)

I would definitly never recommend acer to anyone. Worst customer service I have ever witnessed. Will not even support their product as stated in the warranty.

I agree they should not be required to support any operatingsystem but what came with it, but they should at least support you in getting it back to factory settings, so long as there is no hardware alteration. The recovery discs are supposed to recover the hard drive to factory settings, no matter what happens (software related). I should be able to use the recovery discs on a blank hard drive and it should partition the disc how it needs to be. Thats the definition of recovery as far as I have ever known.

    Prophecy,

If you are still having issues, something I found that seemed to work, try getting rid of all partitions on the drive, and then try to use the restore CD's, that worked for my 8204, which I'd been having issues trying to restore otherwise.

I don't know what it's like in other countries but I'm fairly sure in the UK the practice of requiring customers to register is not something they can enforce. I'm sure there is some kind of consumer right here which says if a warranty is provided then it's active regardless of whether you fill out whatever card to register. It's because so many people fail to register.

Though really there's little excuse for not registering when you buy an extended warranty pack.

I can't say how good the extended is, but I managed to get a 3 year pack very cheap here so I'm not too bothered and besides I was pretty happy with the repair I got on my laptop within the first month of buying it initially. I don't know about the ITW other than it's a shorter period for me (1 year I think).
