Hi guys, always had on going problems with my Acer wireless and thought it's about time to fix it or look into getting a new lappy.... which I REALLY dont want to/can't afford to do!
This is how it started.... When I first got the laptop (Acer TravelMate 2300) the built in wireless was fine for the first year or so then it stopped working so I started using a D-link USB wireless dongle. That was also fine for another year or so until that recently started becoming intermittent and then stopped working on me.
Assuming this was a fault with the d-link USB dongle I've just purchased a TRENDnet TEW-649UB. I followed the instructions and installed it and now this doesn't appear to be working properly for me! It finds the network fine and say it's connected but only for a few seconds and then says disconnected, connected, disconnected, connected, disconnected. . . . and will continue doing this until I get angry from watching that on my screen and unplug it.
Anyone got any ideas whats up this this? Or am I just wirelessly jinxed and destined to never have a reliable wireless connection!?
Many thanks
P.S. . . before you ask, i'm doing this from my Vodaphone HSDPA module. Which does work :-D but costs me more :-(

Hi,
have you ever considered your WLAN router or access point could be faulty?

You may try the following solutions:
-update drivers for the USB-thingy.
-disable power management for USB
-change your wireless channel (use inSSIDer to find one that's not occupied)
-make sure disconnects are not caused by other 2.4GHz non-Wi-Fi hardware (Bluetooth, child monitors, cordless phones or any proprietary wireless technology)
BTW the best solution was to replace the internal Wi-Fi card (be it mini-PCI or mini-PCI-ex). It gives you better signal quality and it's not based on USB which is not an interface meant for networking which clearly shows. -
The OP could also try disabling the USB and wireless drivers under hardware manager..then do a restart. Windows should re-install and refresh your drivers. Unplug all your USB accessories before doing this.
Sounds like your OS, Vista?, is falling apart around you. -

If you disable a device in device manager, Windows won't do anything after a reboot - the device remains disabled.
But if you uninstall these devices, then indeed will Windows redetect and attempt to install them. It is a good idea to have the drivers for the devices in questions available (preferred: a drivers folder on the HDD).
{Nitpicking off}
