I've been forgetting my curiosity about this thing, but it was just now that I remembered--what does the system actually do, aside from the strategically placed rubber stoppers beneath the laptop body?

Oh, and on a side note, also concerning the HDD. I don't know about you guys, but I have a "warranty void if removed" sticker over one of two screw holes in the HDD compartment..will that really void the warranty if ever it got ruined? I'm in the hopes of upgrading my hard drive..

Yeah! Your warranty would void if your ruined it.
The 1st day I bought my laptop, the warranty voided, because I upgrade the RAM to 4gb.
After I read the warranty manual, I only found out my warranty was voided.

Whoa--hold on. You mean when you upgrade your RAM, it will also void warranty? What if you got it upgraded by a representative from the shop where you bought it from? I got this from my dad in Singapore where he got a free RAM upgrade from the shop--that voids warranty?!

DASP supposedly provides some physical protection against HDD damage from a physical impact. There may be additional rubber surrounding the HDD internally as well as that visible on the outside. My understanding is that it is passive impact absorption rather than the accelerometer based technologies appearing in some HDDs.

I am not sure. I had the retailer shop worker to settle it while I bought it.
    Like this,
    I said,
I want to buy this laptop(original 2GB), how much ram does this laptop support?
    Worker,
4 GB of RAM maximum(at that time 4GB ram stick haven't release).
    I said,
OK. Can I have the upgrade here?
    Worker,
Yes, you can. Please wait a moment. 4Gb rite.
    I said,
    Yes.
    ~TIME PASS~
    Worker,
    Done, here you go.
    ~PAY MONEY~

BACK HOME FOUND THAT WARRANTY STICKER RUINED!
I don't know who should hold the responsibilty of ruining the warranty sticker.

You haven't tried contacting Acer about it? Well the case should be that only when we open the entire laptop would the warranty be voided..perhaps someone who has experience with warranties shed some light on these? :D

I've upgraded my CPU and my RAM, and did a number of HDD swaps - I've never seen a warranty void if removed sticker.
As a matter of fact, Acer Canada Tech Support explicitly told me that as long as the original bits were put back in, my warranty would remain intact.

EDIT: And on the topic of DASP, I actually don't have that on my 6920G! Strange...

Really? Hmm. Well, that's strange, having no stickers, perhaps it's not the same as with different branches of Acer?

HDD swaps--is there a limit on how much you can upgrade yours btw? I mean, is it model-specific or can I bludgeon as big a drive as for example a 500gb one into mine?

It is not worthy to upgrade your HDD to 500GB or buy a 500GB laptop HDD.
I suggest you to buy an External HDD/Portable HDD, it is cheaper and more reliable. You don't have to worry how to assemble into your laptop.
    USB will do.

Well I was just asking if there'll be compatibility issues, not that I'm going to do that immediately, y'know.. I know about external enclosures and I think it's more conventional to have like a bigger HDD inside your notebook rather than the external enclosure, or at least that's what I'd prefer.

So again, is it true that some notebooks have harddrive capacity limits? Or could one just install any HDD so long as it physically fits into the slot?

Maybe older models had limits, but modern notebooks should be able to take any capacity SATA had drive, even beyond 500GB.
