Hi,
I'm considering buying an Extensia EX5620-4025 laptop. It's one of the few decent laptops in my price range, but as I haven't heard much as to the quality of their tech support, software, etc.
What do you think of your laptop and your experiences? Is it comparable to say, a Toshiba (which I've heard is really good) or a Compaq (which I've heard is really bad)?
Thanks for helping me make up my mind!![]()

lol ACER? support lol your funny, Acer is worst in the industry,
my experience
Acer Aspire 3503
Case Fell apart after 11months, acer fix no issue
6 months out of warrenty HDD failed, I Fixed $120 latter
Acer Ferrari 5005
1st mainboard failed
2 weeks later
1st HDD failed computer was returned broken
then 2nd mainboard failed
then 2nd hdd failed,
then mainboard, LCD inverter, failed
then the computer complete fried is a smelly smoke mess. ]
Acer replaced with new one
now CPU throttling doesn't work, low batterylife, lid is falling off.
as for support - on a good day you will be on hold for about 20-30 min on a bad day, 1hour.
note Acer is not 24hours support either, so you need to call early in the morning right before you go to work, or right after otherwise you won't get through.
I am now look for a new laptop, that being likely a Lenovo T500
OH as for life span,
Acer Aspire 3503 is just under 3 years
Acer Ferrari 5005 is just over 1.5 years -
Thanks for letting me know. But what about the Extensa itself? I've been doing my research and those are older models. Could it have improved later?
Some people seem to say support is amazing and prompt, but others give it a negative review.
Now, I'm a student and this laptop is going to go with me to the university and be used on public transit. I take care of my computers, but this isn't a desktop replacement by any stretch of the imagination. I'm looking at the 2 year extended warranty just in case, but I want to keep it for several years (for the 2 years I have for my BA and part of my PhD). It sounds like I would trash the computer no matter how careful I am. Is this correct? -
@yuio.....get over it man.
You are one dude with a bad experience....that's it.
What happens if your new Lenovo is as equally problematic as an Acer?
Where are you going to post then?
Cheers,

It depends upon the USER, how he/she uses/treats the notebook. Some do have a rotten bit of luck
D) - They get bad/problematic notebooks to begin with, but Acer isn't too bad.
Acer is the brand - it provides customer and after-sales support, which Acer isn't very good at....but the notebooks are originally manufactured by companies such as Compal, Wistron etc etc. (which make notebooks for many other top and low brands as well). -
Hum, I've had good luck with Acer support, they always answered my
email, even gave me links to XP drivers for an Vista notebook.
Also dropped my 5315, about a foot onto carpeted floor and to my surprise
it's fine ! Man, I'm clumsy ! Hand just let go, guess it comes with old age !
My compaq sounds better, has altecs, but it cost 650 vs 348 for Acer.
Compaq is going on 4 years old and I had to fix video cable, other than that
great notebook.
Acer is great so far about 10 months old and been through hell and still works !

Ya i had acer for 2 yr no issue was work great If you take care you stuff it shound last very long time if you beat the S**T out it it will break
As Andy say They do not make they hardware them self they Basicly rebrand other odm stuff most of the acer laptop are compal or quanta or other odms
As they always chance with any laptop to get lemon does matter who make
Acer support not that bad in canada am not sure other area I never had issue with people work them I mean most them knowledge about they stuff some they reps sucks you can talk to like people not just read script off to you -
i've never had a problem with them either i had a 3-4 year old travelmate and now have a 8920 and that travelmate still works fine i only had to change the keyboard and the pricing was fair. i highly recommend acer

Thanks for your input!
I'm in the USA, and the main thing that has ended up being the deciding factor between the Acer Estensa and the Compaq Presario that I'm split between is service. Will I need to ship my computer to Acer to have it fixed or are there authorized repair centers around the US?
I've searched their website but can't find out either way. This will be a school laptop, so I can't be without it for too long. A week or two could make life difficult without a laptop. (That's a fifth of the quarter!) -
All I can say is this....
I am from South Africa. Acer's support here is "par exellance". These people know what they are doing. And strive to maintain consistently high service levels.
I have spoken to numerous computer shop owners. The result is always the same.......They prefer to sell an Acer before a HP or anything else.
Strange hey, when the rest of the world condemns Acer.
Cheers,

No one condemns Acer .
Its a famous brand also in Greece.
Now , i will agree , that if you respect the unit - Good handling , it will have a good lifespan .
The second and important factor , are to get a non problematic model.
For instance , i just got one used TM 2410 - 2414WLMi .
The laptop are build ed somewhere at mid of 2006 , healthy and strong until today.
I do take care well my computers , and the first that i did after getting the laptop, was to buy the best Notebook Carry Bag ( safe - lots shock absorbing material & reinforced steel ), that there is out there.
The 100% of laptops gets injured on transport , the brand or model does not matter.
ACER service ... well i had not need of them so far , but anything on warranty will be repair it, as all brands do.
What i love on ACER are that it uses common parts that it can be found everywhere .
Like DVD devices and batteries .
