HELP!! My husband's Acer TravelMate 2423WXCI has a totally black screen. No pointer... no nothin' The green power light is ON but nothing is happening. I've tried alternate-control-delete, unplugging the laptop, unplugging AND disengaging the battery. Still nothing but a black screen. Could this be something about "hibernation"? If so, how do I get it off?

Someone out there please help me. I am in the middle of something on my laptop and he wants to use mine since his won't come on.

My phone # is 954-557-6431 if maybe it would be easier to talk me through it?

    Thank you very much,
    Carole [email protected]

I've had this problem happen to me on a number of differernt brands of laptops.
In most cases the problem occurs due to a short in the LCD's connection and the system has deactivated the LCD to prevent further damage.
To fix this hold down the power button until the system completly shuts down(no green light or opperating noises)
then turn it back on. after that things should be back to normal.
In many cases this is a manufacturing defect but it's not always covered by waranaty and in some cases when it is, it is a problem that is in fixable.

basically, I've just learned to live with the fact that it's going to happen from time to time and I'll just have to live with it.

and yes, it does seem to only occur when coming out of hybernation. I find that if you don't go for too long, ie a week or less, without a full powerdown and boot, that the problem tends to be kept at bay.

hope this helps in some way

    Fry

actually, just pushing and releasing the rubber bit that detects when the lid is closed usually dose the trick, you may have to hold it for a second or two before letting go...

that depends on whether or not you closed the lid prior to a complete shut off of power.

Hi Guys, I have exactly the same problem (power on, nothing happens except single green power light and the sound of the fans HDD starting), but I am pretty sure it is due to the fact that I forced in the wrong type of RAM (Please no smartass comments.. Yes, I know it was dumb :( )
What I would like to know is the following:
What are the options moving forward, is it possible to damage the motherboard with incorrect RAM (I am pretty sure no other damage was sustained whilst I was working)?

Any help would be much appreciated
