a new laser comes with the new DVD burner you need to buy...

unless you are some TECH GOD i don't see you aligning a laser correctly if you can find the correct laser for your DRIVE and can manage to replace it without totally screwing the entire drive up..

what DVD drive do you have,, and have you tried updating the firmware for the drive??

replacement DVD drives can be bought for under $50us... which come with a 1 yr warranty.... i personally like the NEC/SONY/OPTIARC line due to the great support and firmware upgrades

if you are dealing with an ACER original part... you won't find firmware for it... and i promise you the LASER assembly (if you can even find one) will cost as much as a new DVD Drive...

if the DVD/laptop is outta warranty... BUY A NEW DRIVE and save yourself time, money, and trouble.

sorry but that's the answer unless YOU can figure out who manufactured the drive... them YOU need to check with that company to find new firmware..

that link is the ONLY REFERENCE I CAN FIND AT NBR about replacing lasers
and since you can buy a dvd reader for $29 at www.geeks.com

or buy a DVD burner for less than $50 and have a warranty.,... there is no way i would spend even $10 on a LASER MECH from EBAY that may or may not work,,,

just bite the bullet and buy a new drive.
