I've been reading a lot of forums and reviews lately trying to decide on an HP vs Acer. It seems to be the consensus that as far as the Acer TravelMate 8200, it is getting better over time.
When it was first created in 01/06, many screen issues were evident such as light leaking and gray lines.
The next round of them made in 02/06 resolved the lighting issues mostly and improved the brightness.
The most recent ones in 03/06 have cleared out the issues entirely.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is going to be wise to wait a few months to get the 8204WLMi. (Enough time for Acer to get it all straightened out)
On another note, how is the 4200 in comparison to the 8200? No stores near me have an 8200 in stock, but they do have 4200's on display. Would it be worthwhile to go look at a 4200 screen/build quality to decide on an 8200?

The buzzing appears to have been fixed in 0603 however they are still supplying the Samsung LCD panel which has grey lines on it:

What gray lines are we talking about here? I just got an 03/06 8204 and i dont see any gray lines anywhere... or maybe i do and i just think its normal. In BF2 for example, not the whole screen is being utilized. There are black spaces left on the right and left sides of the screen. The game simply doesnt know how to use the full screen. Can this be resolved somehow? Its like watching a wide-screen movie with the black spaces on the left and right sides instead of top and bottom...

I got mine back in early Feb (0601 model) and it has a great display. There's maybe 10 or 20 people complaining about their screen out of many 1000's or 10000's of units sold, and who knows what their personal expectations really are? I would say that maybe a few of them have faulty screens (it's always going to happen), but for the rest of them I think it's just a case of misplaced expectations - more than likely it's their first ever notebook and they're (errantly) comparing it to a desktop LCD.
Acers get better over time?
