I can't seem to get my desktop speakers to work on my Acer Aspire notebook. I tried plugging them into all the inputs (line-out,headphone & mic) and get nothing. The internal speakers still work. I can't see any conflicts under the sound settings.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

    Thanks!

You probably need to get a card like Soundblaster's Audigy ZX PCM card, that will allow you to attach desktop speakers to your laptop the way you would have the same speakers hooked into your desktop computer. Take a look here:

    http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=204&product=10769

I use it on my Acer and it works wonders for sound, an upgrade definitely worth getting for any laptop.

The line out and headphone ports on most laptops don't have enough power to run desktop speakers and you risk the chance of damaging the circuitry inside your laptop by plugging your desktop speakers into them. Use the h/phone jack only for headphones and the line out for recording music or mixing when plugged into the appropriate unit for those tasks.

    I don't think that's the problem.

When you plugin the headphones, or line-out, usually the internal speakers will stop playing.

I use the headphone out on my Travelmate 800 for speakers, or to my receiver, and it works fine. Have your inputs or outputs ever worked properly? Are they muted? Are your speakers functioning properly? Is the volume high enough?

Just some simple things that sometimes we all miss...

Does plugging in headphones work? or any other audio device into the mini-plug?
