Adding RAM to 4820TG

Hello everyone,

I have an Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG with 4gb DD3 and ATI Radeon HD 5650 graphics.
Is it possible to add more RAM into it or upgrade the graphics? Current RAM is 1066..can I add 1333?

 

You can upgrade RAM but it won't run faster than 1066MHz (1333MHz will downclock to 1066MHz too- unless you use Core i7 720QM).

You <strike>can</strike> can't upgrade the GPU.

 

Thanks for the reply mate..any info on what RAM and GPU specifications I should look for in the market..I am a noob in these matters so dont know anything

What I meant is you CAN'T upgrade the GPU

Unfortunately it's soldiered and Acer stopped using MXM modules a while ago.

As for RAM- any SO-DIMM DDR3 modules will work- you can buy 1333MHz these will down-clock to 1066MHz

 

but if that downclocks the 1033 to 1066..then is it worth to buy 1033? any price difference? if you want to buy, which brand would you buy?

 

That's entirely the matter of price.

If you buy a 1333MHz CL9 memory it will automatically downclock to 1066MHz CL7 which is faster (in terms of latency) than a 1066MHz CL9.

These days more and more 1066MHz modules are CL7 as stock so in most cases it doesn't matter if you choose one (1333MHz CL9) or the other (1066MHz CL7).

As for the brand- what I'd do is I would buy whatever is on sale from a reputable manufacturer because difference in speed even between 1333MHz and 1066MHz in negligible let alone difference in speed between two 1066MHz modules of different manufacturers.

EDIT: BTW you can upgrade to 8GB RAM.
