Recently my mom said she would buy me a netbook, because my exams were terrible an she thinks taking notes on a netbook will help (i'll let you know next year how that will work out xD).

In a previous thread of mine we discussed netbooks vs ulv notebooks, the latter won.

But, here's an interesting question, this acer 3810t costs 299€ ACER AS.3810T-353G25N bij Vanden Borre : Ruime keuze, makkelijk vergelijken en kopen
which is the same price for a netbook (I sure hope this isn't an error on the site).

The only 'bad' thing is, is its Intel ULV Core 2 Solo SU3500 1.4GHz. Now my question is: is this core2solo cpu slower than...lets say the atom in the asus 1215 (ok I know it costs 150€ more, but the asus also has nvidia ion2).

fyi, I hate slow responsive computers. So...which one is faster?

    Hi,

the intended purpose is typing text, nothing else.
So this Su3500 is good enough and faster than Atom based systems. Ion doesn't matter since it won't give you any improvement for the intended task.

Main advantage would be the 13" screen with 1366x768 resolution.

But for some reason I think, there must be something wrong with that offer  too cheap to be true.

I've seen this model selling in the $350 USD range. 299E is not out of line.

    Bronsky

So your saying that the 1 core intel cpu is stronger than the dual core atom in the asus 1215?

The Atom D510 scores 663 in Passmark, while the U3500 scores 499 (so the Atom should be faster at some things).......

Hm. Okay. The popular price search engines here in Germany list the 3810 from 599 Euro. Admitted, these are configurations with SU7300 and up. Systems with SU3500 or 4100 are no longer available here.

The acer already disapeared from the store, I guess it was too good to be true (I wanted to buy a su7300 cpu and pop it in my self to have a great ulv notebook for 400€).

    I have the acer1810tz with su4100 and a 1410 with su3500.Most of the times I can't tell the difference.For 299e I want one myself but I quess now it's academic.As for poping a su7300 it's not that easy as you think.As a matter of fact it's next to impossible.

Nice find bronsky, too bad I don't live in the states :d Its gonna cost half the price of that laptop to ship it over to belgium lol.

Dissapointing that you can't upgrade the culv processor on that model though. I have no idea what a BGA mounted cpu is but i'm sure they did it to prevent cheap people like me to upgrade it :d
