I stupidly downloaded a virus that is causing trouble so I just want to wipe and reload my computer.

The Alt + F10 wasn't working. Error 4 (sometimes 14). The minint/system32/KDCOM.DLL could not be loaded

I did a lot of researching and found out about changing the main partition to the PQService one. I downloaded the PartEDIT32 software. The problem now is that every time I try and edit the partitions (changing 12 to 07), it never saves. The typed number is red and when I hit save, it reverts back instantly.

Also, I right clicked on My Computer and clicked on manage to see my partitions and nothing is listed. Completely blank.

What to do now? I don't have the disks. How do I make one? I want to avoid paying Acer money for something that should have come with the system. lol :)

When you bought the laptop you got an on-screen warning asking you to burn recovery DVDs- you've ignored it so don't say something "should have came with a system".
You can launch Acer eRecovery and burn recovery DVDs any moment provided your recovery partition ha not been compromised and that the OS is fully functional.

I don't recall this being an option when I bought the laptop. I don't have a CD/DVD drive so it wouldn't have been possible anyway.

Where is the Acer eRecovery thing?

Oh- if you don't have a DVD drive it's a whole different story.
    What notebook is it exactly?

If D2D recovery (ALT+F10) doesn't work it would be faster to use a USB thumbdrive to reinstall Windows rather than try to repair eRecovery partition (which usually doesn't work anyway)

I have an Acer Aspire One.. the cheap ones at Walmart. I've had this thing for a few years and wiped and reloaded a handful of times using the Alt F10 route, but this virus screwed that up.

I tried booting from a thumb drive before but that didn't work. I then purchased a USB floppy and have a USB CD/DVD drive coming in the mail soon.

I don't think this computer allows booting from drive.

Have you checked your bios if there is a "F12 boot menu" (or similar) option that needs to be enabled?

The F12 boot menu works fine.

I am just trying to set my acer back to factory settings so I can start fresh. The Alt f10 doesn't work because the KDCOM.DLL could not be loaded.
