Hi all, can anyone help me turn off the hugely irritating inbuilt promo advert that comes on my laptop. It appears when i'm listening to music, watching a film or even if the computers just thinking about something and the keyboard hasn't been used for awhile. Please help it's driving me mad! Model is the Aspire 5920G.

Hmmm...strange...I clean installed XP and there is no such problem. I also got rid of the Acer E-Empowering s/w...have you tried to remove the bloatware on the machine?

What OS do you have? What do you use to listen to music and watch films?

Have you done a thorough virus scan of your machine recently? If not, do so!

Hi lineS of flight, i'm new to computing!
My OS is windows vista home premium which came installed and I have been using Divx, Real player, I tunes to watch and listen with.

I'm guessing 'bloatware' is the software that comes with the laptop if so this is something I haven't changed.

I've e-mailed Acer about the problem but have recieved no reply.

Lolzzz....yeah that's probably it! I didn't think of that! To the OP...I am afraid I don't know how Vista works - I don't use it, but it should be easy enough to change the screen saver...

But on second thoughts Bigozone...if the OP is watching a movie, how can the screen saver come on?

Anyways...back to the OP...bloatware is all the (generally useless) promotional stuff that computer manufacturers put on machine, which needlessly slow down your system. On some machines (here I am thinking of Vaio) it is a bit of a problem to remove them...but that being said, it can be done. Look on the forum here for solutions.

My Acer came with Linuz install. I had a copy of XP Pro which I installed. That got rid of the bloatware for me. You may have to reinstall Vista to get rid of yours but be sure to have the appropriate drivers and other critical software on hand else you may end up in bit of trouble. Again, look around in the forum - there are some threads if I remember correctly that tell you or describe how to clean install the OS onto the 5920.

    Cheers!

or you can right click on your desktop, go to personalize and a screensaver option will be there.
