So I have had a terrible time with Acer Technical support, and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for how I should handle this situation.

My computer currently has a fan that is obviously on its death bed. It makes an incredibly loud rattling noise which prevents me from taking the computer to class or anywhere else without distracting those around me. This rattle began happening a week after I got my computer back from the acer repair depot because they replaced the motherboard. I had to send the computer back three consecutive times in the past few months because they kept replacing the LCD screen when the problem was the motherboard.
I finally have the computer back and functioning and the fan starts dying. I cannot afford to send the computer back for another 2-3 weeks due to my school and work load, but I know if I fix it or take it to be fixed somewhere local the warranty will be voided. Not to mention I don't exactly have cash laying around to spend. If I sent the computer back it would be its 5th trip back to the repair depot. That would put me at close to 3 months (2-3 weeks every repair) of time I have spent without my computer over the 2 years I have owned it.

Acer online support is no help, they always reply saying something to the effect of "Too bad, so sad." I haven't had the time or patience yet to deal with the phone support, but I think that is my only option. Even still, I know they will just say I have to send it back, which is not an option for me. Does anyone have any other ideas or should I just bite the bullet and try to fix it locally by paying way to much. Any advice would be great, thanks

It will more than likely void warranties for the areas that you access. You can try to take the fan apart, very simple, and oiling it with lightweight oil. It shouldn't be too expensive to order a replacement fan online and installing it yourself, as long as there is no soldering. Laptop fans are all very similar and are not too complicated. There are multiple guides for other laptops that would server as a good basis for your repair, try Google. Good luck.

    Escalate, escalate, escalate.
Make a big enough stink and threaten a Better Business Bureau complaint (or better, a lawsuit!) and Acer will likely bend over backwards to try and placate you.
