    Greetz All:

The neighbor just showed up at my door with her daughter's aspire 5610 bl50. It seems to have the same symptoms as prince_f_swords machine. Of course her daughter absolutely needs the machine for a school project and that would be the day it dies.

I opened it up and checked all connections, reseated the RAM cleaned out the cooling fan. I tried the remove battery and power cable and held the power button on for about 45 seconds and no change.

When I do initiate the power button the pwr led comes on and the fan starts and runs for maybe 15 seconds. Then NOTHING. No screen illumination or post.

The bad thing is we live in Panama City, Panama (not in USA)and she bought this at Best Buy in Miami. I am sure it is out of or just about out of warranty and we have no place to take it here anyhow.

If anyone out there can help me maintain my badge as neighborhood computer hero I would certainly appreciate any ideas or known solutions to this one.

    Cheers:
    ElLeonBlanco

let's hope it's just a corrupt BIOS and not a more serious failure of the main board.

i'll see what i can find on recovering the BIOS on that model.... there is a site called theeldergeek where there is alot of bios recovery info.

you need to post again to enable private messaging ;)

Sounds like a hardware failure to me more than any bios problem. The mainboard is probably dying (or is already dead), thus explaining why you cannot see the Post (basic test) or anything else. The mainboard is still getting power and that probably explains why the fan still spins and the leds come on.

I have seen many of these posts in my time here and yours unfortunately sounds like a dead mainboard...

good point andyasselin,, the DATA can be saved and accessed by buying an EXTERNAL USB HDD ENCLOSURE...

i'm not sure but from the model #, i'd bet you have a SATA hdd so you will need an enclosure for a SATA drive.. just verify drive type before ordering

OP: Are you good at disassembling notebooks ?

    Try using different RAM modules
Reseat the LCD cable (check it there are broken wires in the ribbon cable)
Remove the Modem board (if any)
    Remove the Wireless module
Remove the HDD and the ODD
    Remove the battery
    Then boot.
    (Are there any beeps ?)

If it still doesn't work, BIOS recovery would be next !!
