    Here's a weird one:

The on-line ATI manual says I can rotate my screen 90 degs:

    ----------------------------------------
    VersaVision™
An ATI technology enabling accelerated display rotation and scaling. Any desktop can now be rotated 90 degrees left or right, or even 180 degrees, while maintaining the full feature set of other ATI 2D and 3D technologies, such as SmoothVision™. VersaVision™ works with single or multiple displays.

    Rotate the desktop

Click Displays Manager in Advanced View.
Right-click the desktop monitor icon to be rotated.
Select a rotation option from the pop-up menu.
Optionally, select a rotation angle from the Rotation drop-down menu.
    ----------------------------------------

But when I go to these menus in the ATI dialogs, it does not give me this option to rotate when I right click.

Am I missing something? Is VersaVision some other app that I don't have loaded that is different than the ATI CATALYST?

Can someone see if it works on theirs?

I don't know about VersaVision, but there was screen rotation in Catalyst. Ati tray tools also has that, but for some strange reason - it doesn't work now. Hm.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the manual says the option to rotate is in the Catalyst under Display Manager.

But when I right click on the displays, it does not have an option to rotate as the manaul indicates.

I have seen some vague google searches that hint that ATI turns off some features in OEM implementations, but these features can be turned back on with regedits...

I know for sure it worked. I never use that though. So I am also a bit surprised that it doesn't work. I will check when I install Catalyst Control Center (cause I have driver only for now).

It works for me under Omega 3.8.272 Drivers.

Right click the display, choose properties
Open the settings Tab, choose advanced
Choose the Rotation Tab (Omega Driver) and click the rotation that you want.

    Arla,

Thanks for the reply! I really need to be able to rotate this display for booth display at a convention, so I really appreciate yours and ikovac's help!

Right now I have the standard Acer ATI stuff loaded on my machine: ATI Driver 8.202.0.0 and Catalyst Control Center.

I had done a fresh install of XP, but my friend has a stock standard install and neither one of us can figure out how to rotate it.

I do not have a rotation tab in the display properties advanced tab...

How would I go about mimicing your configuration? Do I need to uninstall both the ATI catalyst and the ATI drivers and download and install the Omega 3.8.272 drivers?

Where did you download your Omega driver from?

I failed to mention before that my 5672 has the ATI 1400, not the 1600. Which one do you have? Would that make a difference in terms of having the rotation functionality?

    Many thanks!

Mine is an 8204 (so the 1600) but I wouldn't think it would make THAT much of a difference. Omega (if I recall) is fairly simple to install, although the latest ones seem to have a few issues (I've read a number of accounts of the 6.9 ATI drivers causing BSOD for a lot of people) so I'd personally go with the ones based on the 6.7 drivers.

    You can find them here

If I recall it's best to uninstall any ATI stuff before installing the drivers, just to be sure.

    Arla,

I did what you said. I removed everything that said ATI, downloaded the 6.7 drivers, and EVERYTHING WORKED!

    Yes!

I was able to keep the laptop display as 1200x800 with a regular orientation, and make the VGA output 768X1024 with a 90deg rotation!

Totally awesome. Now I can run my projector on it's side and place it to the left of the screen and use the keystone correction to keep it square!

THANK YOU! You saved the day!
