Just thought I'd query the 6920/8920 users out there to see if other people are having the same problem I've been having all along.
That's right - TF2 wasn't slowing down because of audiodg.exe, or my GPU, or my connection: my stupid little T5550 was downclocking itself because it was overheating. Real "eureka" moment for me. :p
Now, call me crazy, but RealTemp was reading the cores as maxing out at 70 degrees celsius - isn't that a little paranoid to be downclocking so early? I mean, my old TravelMate 3252's T2300E went into the 80s with nary a peep.

It would also explain how things like Project64 and Audiosurf would run just fine on my system - they may tax the CPU or GPU, but not really both at the same time. TF2 is the exception.

So, the question I pose to you is - has anyone else with the T5550 been experiencing hot-running systems? How about you lucky Penryn owners?

My CPU while gaming does not get higher than 45C. I have had no heat problems. My 6920G stays very cool. My GPU never gets higher than 56C. I have laptop cooler on mine maybe that's why its running cooler.

Well, I don't have any laptop cooler and I've got a T8100, but my temps while gaming don't go over 60C.

OK, here's the step-by-step plan I have for solving this problem.

    1. Prop up the system with SD card or DVD cases to improve airflow. Done.
    2. Buy a can of air, open the bottom of my system, and un-dust the mofo.
    3. Undervolt using RMClock.
    4. Buy a laptop cooler OR
    4b. Buy a Penryn CPU (hopefully a T83/T93).
