    Hi all,

I also love my Aspire 2002WLCi - no keyboard problem either (knock on wood). However, I was wondering if anyone has the bluetooth option - especially in Canada. I called Acer when I first purchased the notebook - and they said that it wasn't available in Canada. Is this true - the wiring harness (in the battery compartment) seems easily end-user installable. I would like to activate this optional feature on my notebook - is there some aftermarket bluetooth module available or will Acer change its mind?

I'm wondering the same thing. I've seen on some other boards people talking about it but haven't seen someone actually do it and indicate the part that was used. You can always add an external USB bluetooth adapter but I would rather have something internal. Along the same lines, I bought a Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG mini-pci card to replace the 2100B card to get G wireless speeds. It was delivered to my house yesterday but no one was home so I hope it will be there today. I'll let you know how that goes. I also don't have the keyboard problem others have.

I was able to install the Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG Mini-PCI card in my Aspire 2000LCi today. It was pretty easy to remove the 2100B card and connectors and install the new one. The only problem I am having right now is an error I get with the Zero Configuration service from Intel. I get an error but the connection still works. I was going to try some Intel ProSet drivers I got off a Europe Acer site for the 2020 series to see if that fixes it.

Did those new drivers you downloaded for the 2020 fix your problem?

Yes it did. I didn't use the Intel software though and just installed the drivers. I let Windows manage the wireless connection instead of the Intel application.

Getting back to Bluetooth...can anyone with a Acer laptop that has Bluetooth internally provide some info. I saw some references in another Forum that from the Device Manager that it was a Widcomm Bluetooth with Broadcomm drivers or something like that. I know Acer had offered Bluetooth in some of their other models so if anyone that has one please let us know if it has a part number or any identification on it (physically or from Windows).

I found this info on another web site(www.whatlaptop.co.uk):
    ***********************************************************
You may like to know the following: The Bluetooth part number (from Acer UK) is 54.A14V5.004 and is available in the UK from their spare parts partner, ERS, tel: 0870 607 1215. The adaptor (Broadcom) is £19.34 + VAT, with £7.00 + VAT for UK shipping. I've ordered one and it installs fine (in the compartment beneath the battery). There are no drivers with this part so there are two options:

    1. Download the new Windows XP SP2 which has native Bluetooth drivers for the first time (and which work a dream with this module).
    2. Download the Widcomm drivers for the Acer Aspire 2010 (http://support.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/portal.cfm?recordid=1995&formid=3394&website=AcerPanAm.com&originwebsite=AcerPanAm.com&central=1&words=All&keywords=bluetooth&pupv=pu) which also work and provide more profiles. Note that I found this zip file to be corrupt, but the only affected file was the Microsoft Installer setup for Windows 98, which you're unlikely to need anyway. XP has MSI installed already so if you use PKZIPFIX on the zip it'll work fine.

It's been a while coming but the module works perfectly with my Sony Ericsson phone and the laptop is at last complete!
    ***********************************************************

Does anyone know if this part is available in the US? Has anyone else done this upgrade yet?

WOW, great info for UK owners.

For US owners, someone posted full info on the NotebookForums.com... it's strange that the UK price you quoted seems to be cheaper than the US prices quoted (that's including the additional 17.5% VAT on the UK prices)

Man, Robokam...You seem to be a real lifesaver when it comes to upgrading the Acer notebooks! I've been trying to find info on how to install bluetooth into my 801CLi, and this is the only info I've found in dozens of websites.

Just curious, did you have to tell AcerUK that you were a dealer or anything? Some manufacturers won't sell parts to anyone other than authorized dealers because they don't want people like me opening the thing up.

By the way, I followed your instructions to a "T" on upgrading the mini-pci card and it's worked beautifully! I'm so glad I got the upgrade because it even extended my range from the 802.11b.

    Thanks for the help!

Here's the link that Odie referenced:

    http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=38437

I tried calling the company (company in US and not Acer UK) listed in the forum but they were closed for the day. I plan on calling them first thing tomorrow morning to order the part. I have a Bluetooth cell phone (SE T637) that I can test it with once I get it installed. Next I need to get a BMW Bluetooth retrofit kit for the car and I'm all set, well until the next upgrade...

Where are all the 100GB+ 7200 rpm 2.5" hard disks?

I'm assuming you have to actually have a BMW to get that kit right? That's probably something that I won't be able to order, even if it is sold at a cheaper price in the UK [ :D]

(This was done on an Acer Aspire 2000 LCi) The bluetooth module (Acer Part No. 54A14V5004) came today from Capital Data Inc. (517) 371-7100. The person who took my order was named Lola and was very helpful.

It is pretty easy to install. Just remove the battery and you will see a clear plastic cover with a black wire under the cover. Remove the 2 screws holding the cover. At the end of the black wire is a white connector. Plug this into the connector on the edge of the bluetooth module. Look carefully at the connector and connect it to the module. It's a little hard to see the shape since it is so small. The module will only go into space one way with the connector on edge closest to the center. I had to push up some of the black wire inside so that the module could fit. Use the 2 screws to attach the module to the body.

I restarted Windows and didn't notice anything different. Then I realized that I need to push in the Blue button to turn on Bluetooth. Windows recoginzed the new hardware and installed the drivers (WinXP Pro SP2 supports Bluetooth).

In the Device Manager it now displays Bluetooth Radios with 2 items, Blutonium BCM2035 Bluetooth 2.4 GHz Single Chip Tranceiver and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. Under Network Adapters there are 2 new entries, Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) and Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI). I haven't tried to connect to a bluetooth device yet. My son has a SE T637 phone that has bluetooth and when he gets home I'll try it.

Thanks for the install notes, Robokam. I've been waiting to see how well it worked for you. By the way, how much did Capital Data charge for the part?

On the other forum the guy said he paid $85 but when I called they said it was $99 ($85 each for 2 or more). I think they charged about $11 for shipping. A little bit more expensive but to me it is well worth it since I don't have to remember to bring a card or plug in a usb device in order to use bluetooth.

I was able to send and receive pictures from a SE T637 bluetooth phone. You can also use the phone as a modem to dial up to the internet if you have the right service (?) with your cellular carrier (don't think I have the service and haven't tried it yet).

Wow, someone actually got somewhere with this. $99usd is kind of steep for this when USB dongles are $30 - has anyone found any other place that would sell this part? Especially in Canada?

    Thanks.

    Guys,

I have followed directions from this thread and go myself a bluetooth module for my Acer Aspire 2012.

Put it under the battery, switched on and Windows XP did its thing with the drivers - all looks fine in Control Pannel.

BUT - no luck finding any Bluetooth devices (I got a BT headset).

I also tried installing the dirvers that came on the Acer CD with same effect.

Does anyone know if these laptops came with a BT antenna fitted? Acer are (as always) highly unhelpful. Maybe I have the module but no antenna on the other end of the cable?

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

I just installed the module in my Aspire 2002 and it all works fine - it properly connects to my iPAQ PDA and I get a good 20+ft range, so I assume the antenna has been installed by default. Although there was a fair bit of configuration I needed to do on both software ends.

I installed the Acer Aspire 2020 drivers for bluetooth. You have to make sure that under My Bluetooth Places, My Device, has My Headset enabled and automatically start up. There maybe a "pairing" process which I had to do with my PDA and encryption option with passkeys that had to be entered at both the PDA and laptop end. You can also right click the bluetooth tray icon and go to advanced configuration, then select the discovery tab, check "Look for other bluetooth devices" and click add device button and see if your headset comes in there. Theres a pretty extensive PDF file that came with the Acer bluetooth drivers that was very helpful if not wordy. Good Luck. I love having bluetooth on the laptop now, even internet connection is shared with the PDA now!

Does anyone know where I can get similar screws to the two that hold down the bluetooth module? I have the brass holes, but no screws came with my laptop. Even any info or specs about the screws - I know that the #4s at the hardware stores are too big.

    Thanks,
    Wm

Cheers for all the advice guys..... my headset is up and running!

And the problem was..... I wasn't pushing the ON button for long enough so the headset never went into pairing mode ;-) Dough!

I lost count of how many times I have installed/uninstalled drivers... but am running with the Acer supplied drivers and all is honky-dory.

    Hi there,
I wanted to install internal bluetooth on my Acer 2003WLMi, but Acer said it can not be done and recommended USB dongle instead. Later on I found on this forum, that it is possible and got even Acer spare part with instruction to do so. Thank you. Now what happened next you would not believe this. I checked beneath the battery and where was a black wire with connector as described here on forum, so I decided to go ahead and buy the BT spare part for approximately £20. Unfortunately the speakers on my laptop failed so I decided to wait with the upgrade until I have laptop back from repair (I have got an extended warranty). I did ask technician to check on possibility of BT upgrade for my laptop. Since it was already with them I thought I can pay few more quid to get it done professionally. To cut long story short. I got my laptop back from repair and surprise, surprise. Technician in the enclosed note said that he had to exchange main board and that this mother board doesn't support BT so I need to go for USB one instead. All that would not be surprise, but when I removed the batter to have a look at BT connector, it is gone. The cable and connector have gone. so now I believe what technician said that the main board doesn't support BT, however mine old one did. Can I ask you, could anybody with Acer 2003WLMI or 2000 series take a photo of this connector as Acer thinks I am a foul and I can not prove to them what they done. May be I am a foul, but I was really looking forward to been able to upgrade my NB with the internal BT and Acer did it its way.

Hi, I'm another 2012 WLMi user willing to get the internal bluetooth module. I wanted to know if you guys that already got the module installed tried to connect some HID device with it (i.e., a keyboard, a mouse). Another thing that I wanted to know is if you can get more than one bluetooth device connected at a given time (for example, the bluetooth mouse and a bluetooth cellphone for call screening).
    Thanks!

FYI...I just installed new bluetooth software/drivers on my Aspire 2001LCi. I originally had installed the drivers for the Aspire 2020. The new ones are for the Aspire 1680 and are the Bluetooth Driver v3.0.1.902. This is the Widcomm BTW 3.0 version. I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

Thanks to all for the info re the BT module for my Acer Aspire 2000. I've been trying to track one of these down but to no avail. I've tried ERS(UK) and Capital Data (USA) and even rung Australia ! These things are hard to get hold of! I'm now trying Spain. It seems they are all waiting for stock from the manufacturers. Capital did say they had some in stock but I find US$99 a bit steep. In Aus they were only AUD$105. Has anyone else got anymore spare part dealers. I'm in London? |Feeling real jealous for anyone BT'g I'm trying real hard to join the gang.

Hello there folks ... I've got an ACER travelmate 2303LM that has no bluetooth daughter card installed.
I took off the battery and noticed that I cannot access the motherboard area under it cause I'm being blocked by plastic which cannot be removed in anyway. I even looked under anything I could remove. I can't find the spot to place such a bluetooth addon card. Can anyone help me?
I would take everything off to get access to the entire board but I'd appreciate if someone could let me know if it's wotrh the trouble.
By the way ... does anyone have the board layout of my laptop on photo or diagram?
    Thanks all, Nico from Athens.
