    Hi,

I was playing with Ubuntu (edgy eft, 6.10), running it from the install CD. I liked it a lot, better than Vista ;)

However, there was a major caveat: The graphics did not run accelerated, meaning resizing windows and other normal stuff was dead slow. And it didn't offer screen resolutions higher than 1400 x 1050 so everything was stretched horizontally.

Is anyone running Ubuntu edgy on a TM8204? Does it work?

    Thanks for any info!

I don't own a 8204, but since most Acer parts are similar in origin and brand, I can safely say that Edgy will run without a doubt. Even if I didn't know anything about what computer you had - a Mac or PC, I would be able to say that Ubuntu will work. Try out the Live CD and tell us what you think!

Maybe I wasn't clear enough - I tried the Live CD, it's awesome.

The only problem was the max. resolution I could set it to was 1400x1050 whereas I want to set it to 1680x1050 which is the native resolution of the TM 8204.

So any 8200-series owners running ubuntu, please let me know how I can get the ATI card to work.

This sounds excellent, thanks! Will try ASAP.

Linux Mint, based on Ubuntu, includes this script, apparently ubuntu is shooting itself in the foot over this as the ATI/NVidia drivers are considered "dirty" because they are not open source. But I tell you what, I would much rather have a dirty driver that works vs NO freakin' driver at all! So... I am definitely a Mint guy ;)
