Hi guys, please could anyone help out with the following....

I have an Acer TravelMate 3300 which caught a virus. I decided I would install Windows XP from scratch and load the drivers after I installing the OS. However, there appears to be a problem which I think stems from the fact the laptop does not have an inbuilt cd drive and the external CD drive must be connected by firewire.

Once the drivers are all loaded from the CD during setup, and the installation is ready to begin, the laptop just switches itself off. I have tried it many times, and the same thing happens. I also have a Windows 98 SE CD which I tried to install but that comes back with no CD drivers found.

I have since installed Linux (Ubuntu) - I first formatted the drives - but don't really like it and want to go back to windows. I've skimmed through the forum and read about the recovery method. But pressing ALT + F10 doesn't do anything.

If anyone has any tips or advice on how I can get Windows XP back on my system it would be greatly appreciated
