    HI all -
I have an ACER Ferarri 3200. I just bought the Linksys Wireless G router. I'm having problems connecting with the Laptop when "WPA" is enabled. I'm able to connect wirelessly when either using WEP or nothing at all. However when I try to enable WPA and designate a password (in the router's interface), I cannot get the laptop to connect.

Does anyone know what I need to do on the laptop's side of things? It's running Win XP. Thanks.

I don't have an Acer, but I had the same problem with my HP Notebook. I solved the problem by removing the linksys software and letting Windows XP do the setup for me. You still need the Router Software but windows will do the card setup for you. This should work.

A bit off topic and I'm a network semi-noob...but why use WPA or WEP? Isn't just only allowing the Mac of the Laptop to use the wireless good enough ? (as can be setup in the Linksys router?)

I had a similar problem with an acer 4011 and wireless G router. Since I'm not really a geek, I called Linksys customer support (number's on the box) and they stayed with me until we figured it out together. Took more than an hour, and I can't remember the solution, but I was amazed at the quality of their support.

    EC99SS,

Does the option to select WPA-PSK, show up where you selected WEP for instance?
I believe your network card has to support WPA, and you also need to have the proper updates done for Windows. I believe WPA support was included in SP2?
On the Linksys router, you need to set Encryption to WPA, and select Either TKIP or AES, make up a passphrase. Under the Wireless connection in XP, you then select WPA (TKIP or AES) and fill in your pass-phrase, and that should be it....

    I have a Acer 81014 ,2915abg Wireless card - Linksys WRT54GS V1 Router and use WPA.

First off you absolultely need Windows xp sp2 (as mentioned ) - Then make sure your Router has the latest firmware ( www.linksys.com) and your card has the latest drivers (go to Acer's web site or the vendor (eg: Intel)

All that said my WPA connection still disconnets occassionly but it's something I live with.
