Hi, As I am becoming ever more wary of updates, I wonder if anyone knows what the following is for. I am told via windows update (tuesday 19th) that there is an optional driver update available for NVIDIA nFORCE network controller. This is for an ACER ASPIRE 9301with Vista Home Premium ? Current driver version 65.7.4.0 Any comments appreciated.

It's for the NIC card (or LAN card).

O.K. Full backup then just to be sure, and yes something is different, now when shutting down the green "shutting down" screen with revolving circle freezes and the screen goes black (used to fade out slowly). Still appears to shutdown O.K. though. After 3 updates in 6 months that have caused major problems I am afraid I just don't trust MS to deliver the correct updates for specific hardware anymore.
