I have a timeline 4810T, and im starting to do some heavier photo editing, and CAD work on it, was hoping I could bump up to 8gb ram with my 120 ssd for a nice boost in speed...i tried two different ram setups one infinieon and the other kingston and neither 8gb kit works. Am I stuck at 4 gb?

What version of windows are you using? I've put 8gb of ram in my 3820T running 64bit Win 7 Home without problem.

I'm using win 7 64 bit. From all accounts it should work. Maybe I need to upgrade my BIOS. Could that help.

I put 8GB in my 1810T which I believe is the same chipset, all of it save for whatever I reserved for the GMA 4500MHD was usable in Win7 x64.

However, it's DDR2 which is ridiculously expensive for 2x4GB.

My RAM kit was a 2x4GB from eBay - the seller can't guarantee what brand you get, but I ended up receiving PC2-6400 Hynix modules.

What do you mean by "it doesn't work". I.e., the computer simply doesn't recognize the RAM at all?

What is the exact model # of the Kingston and Infineon Ram you've tried?

It is ddr3 10666 value ram. It starts but just hangs on startup the windows logo and just stays there. Put the stock ram back in and boots up fine. Got any ideas?

Don't know, that ram should work fine as far as I can tell.

Did you try booting up with 1 stick? I.e., try each single stick in each slot?

No that's the only thing I have not tried. I would be weird that I get 2 peices of bad ram in a 2 day time frame.

I agree, but may as well rule it out. Doesn't make any sense to me. I think the laptop specs 10600 ram, but there is no difference that I know of between 10600 vs 10666.

does it boot with just 1 of the 4gb sticks in?
if so try it with one 4gb and one 2gb sticks
my 8930g wont run with 8gb(2x4gb sticks) but runs fine with 1x 4gb and 1x 2gb.
    also its 1066mhz not 10666

shakenstirred, it IS 10600 ram, and mine wont boot up with 6 or 8 gigs, tried every other combination.

Hmm, maybe a call to acer, maybe I need an updated BIOS.
