Have any body used USB mouse with TM 4000 or Aspire 1680 Series? Is the mouse movement smooth and does it pause once in a while ?

I have Y-Mouse cable ( ps/2 keyboard & mouse to Usb coverter) . When i use ps/2 mouse with this coverter the movement freezes once in while or genrates random mouse clicks.

I dont know whether the problem is with USB port or Y mouse cable . If any one using USB mouse could give their feed back it would be really helpfull

I'm using a Microsoft USB mouse on my 1681, and it's very smooth.

    George,

I recently bought a new USB optical mouse which is USB. It has a USB to PS2 adapter that I use. When connected to the PS2 port, the mouse works fine except for the scroll wheel. When I scroll up, it will scroll down. When I scoll down, it scrolls down. When I connect the mouse to the USB port, it works fine.

I checked around and found that if my setting in the BIOS is set so that it will utilize both the internal (touchpad) & external mouse simultaneously, it will cause this exact problem. I changed my setting from Both to Auto Select and the problem is resolved. This may be the exact same type of problem you're encountering. Goto the BIOS and check for a similar setting.

I'm actually running windows xp that came with the notebook (although a link I posted is refering to linux). Strangely enough when I plug in a usb mouse I dont have any problems with it, but my usb soundcard has dropouts/pauses which are fixed by disabling the battery.

I changed the option in bios to Auto but still the same problem persist. So i went out and brought USB mouse its working well , I guess problem is with Y mouse cable ( Kvm switch)

yeah, disabling the 'smart battery subsystem' in device manager gets rid of the pauses.

    USB mouse is working fine.

BTW: Today i plugged back the old Y-Mouse cable and found The problem was due to use of mouse alone ..if i use a keyboard and mouse with Y mouse cable it works fine

I have USB PS2 Y Cable with a KVM. I had the almost the same problem if i connect one device only either kbd or mouse . But if i connect both keyboard and mouse at the same time to Y cable ..then there is no struck charater or annoying mouse movement

So try connecting one mouse and keyboard to Y cable KVM
