I have been reading a lot of reviews about the Acer laptops (I have been looking at the 8930G) and it seems that they malfunction after a few months of operating. Is this as bad as it seems? I really don't know what to do! Please help me.

This is a dangerous thread to post in the ACER lovers section :p

My first laptop was an ACER and it overheated, lagged like crazy, was slower than an Ant with heavy shopping.

So naturally I went for an ACER again :D I bought the 6920G as i fell for its looks and it has never let me down in 2 years it runs anything I throw at it and has a lot of potential. When it does have a problem thats more the better for me to fix it.

I hear that a few of the newer models had to be recalled but a friend of mine has the 8935G and says it is fantastic although heavier than a lorry its a really tidy model.

You have to add up the pros and cons I got my 6920G for £300.00 as a gamble from Ebay two years ago and its on there now for £400.00 so you have to find a model that suits you look at the review sum up the price against the spec and go for it.

Personally for my needs 2 years ago this beat anything else on the market for the price and even today still surprises me!

I've been an Acer user for the past four years now - a dumpy TravelMate 3252WXMi, then I got this beauty in May '08.
Both have been able to take everything I've thrown at them and then some.

If you treat your laptop with respect and back up regularly, it'll serve you well.

Using mine (in the signature) since beginning of October 2008 and still working just fine (aside from the fact the video cable seems to mess up the image occasionally which requires opening the cover at the power button once in a month and simply juggle the cable a bit - nothing major - this happens because of frequent opening/closing of the lid).
    :)

Acer apparently cleaned up their act with Gemstone releases back in 2008 ... so as far as general quality and cooling goes, they are decent for the offered price.
But generally speaking, it also has a lot to do with how you treat your laptop.

Sound good then. I think the reason why I've seen so many bad reviews is because most of the people that have just had a faulty one write a review all negative but the people that are 100% happy don't really bother.

Im gonna go with the 8930G then! SWEEET I'll see you guys again soon then.
    (I love forums :)

I own an Acer 1410 and this thing is less problematic than my m17x. Actually my Acer 1410 has NEVER given me ANY problems and I throw it around a lot. I baby my m17x and it still is finicky. But man is it fast...

But that's the same as saying that my Toyota is more reliable than my Lamborghini :)

I have both a 1410T and the 3820TG and both are wonderful machines. Both have performed flawlessly, even though neither has been particularly babied (although I do not throw my 1410T around :D). My company previously would only let us own Dells. My Acer is far better than any of the Dells I've used, except for the M4500 Precision I was using lately.

The 1810T is my very first Acer ever. Only had Dells before, but I have to say that this Acer is the same quality as the Dells... although I think that Acers got much better in the last couple of years.

My Aspire coming up to 4 years old shortly... still like new... used for several hours a day. Battery still seems good as new too.

So many problems are caused by either physical misuse such as yanking the lid open at the corner with one hand and just plain old "twiddling" such as trying to modify the thing or flash the bios without them having much idea what they are doing... as witnessed by all the threads of "non functioning" doorstops.

My 5739G almost has 1 year now and it worked fine all the way, never had a problem with it. The only thing i worry about is cracked BGA solderings, anyone had problems with those? i heard most notebooks suffer from that.

I'm not an Acer user, but I can recommend them... I find nothing wrong with them, sure, way back when I thought they were these cheap flimsy laptops, but after time, I realised they weren't that bad... My cousin bought one (can't remember which one) and even I loved it!

    So, Acer's aren't that bad!

Actually only the CULV processors use the BGA mount these days. Most Arrandale processors use a PGA988 socket and are removable/interchangable.

Used many acers, always excellent price vs performance/features ratio. Quality is in general good, but like with all manufacturers there are some less good models.

    Superb machines.

Before we had the 1800 series and also those were superb.
