I know the Aspire 5672 has overheating issues, but I'm afraid in my case something is wrong.
My default idle temperature is 60-64C, and while gaming (BF2, for example) it gets up to 80. I downloaded Intel Thermal Analysis Tool ( http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/392/mirrors.php)
And i tried to test it at full CPU load. In a matter of seconds, it reached over 94C and the system got automatically shut down. This means my laptop can't work at full load.
Is this normal? Can someone perform the same tests and let me know the numbers?
I'm afraid of doing the thermal compound replacement as suggested in other threads, since I'm afraid of breaking something, so if my laptop is really not working properly I'll think of going to the tech support, but first I want to make sure it's a problem with this laptop and not all laptops of this model.
Thanks in advance.
Btw: Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi, Core Duo 1.66, 1Gb ram, ATI Mobility Radeon x1600.

I had those same temps and my Acer finally failed. First the hard drive, and then the motherboard and CPU were replaced under warranty.
It's only a matter of time before yours goes.
Mine now idles around 50c and under extreme heavy loads gets up to 70c.
I had the vent cover mod applied and when I took off and put back the heat pipes, now my fan runs a lot harder for some reason. I don't complain about the noise or reduced battery life because it's better than having the thing blow up again! -
90s are definitely bad...even 80s are something to worry about. Check out the Cooling Guide for info and tips that might help you lower the temps, but that computer needs to be fixed soon if you can.

are you giving your computer proper ventilation? Are you running any extra processes if you look in your task manager? Are these temps when you turn off un-needed components of your laptop?
There are many things to consider here to lower your overall temps. To give you an idea of where I'm coming from, I turn off almost EVERYTHING when I game. Wireless / bluetooth / firewire / cardbus . This helps some, and what really helps is the Websters dictonary or some other 1/2 in book or so to prop the laptop up and offer it better airflow.
Just a few suggestions to try to lower temps. If that does not work look here for more help - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=77860 I don't think this would void your warranty (if performed correctly) but that is just me and my opinion.
Good luck,

Using notebook hardware control, (a very good program that I highly recommend) my temps read out as 43 for the hd and 52 for the CPU temp (degrees C). While gaming, depending on the temp of the room the laptop is in, I reach close to 80 degrees. I have not modded my Aspire 5672 w/ x1600 at all, (its not one with the plastic over the fan) but to combat these somewhat high temps and the roaring of the fan I plan to get a notebook cooler from newegg.
If its getting into the 90's something needs to be done,
good luck

Thank you all for your replies.
I usually minimize the amount of running applications to the bare minimum. I removed every single Acer Empowering program, and I even turned off some windows services I don't use.
While gaming, i get 80 all the time, but that's similar to yours.
Any thoughts on this?
If anyone out there cares to run intel's TAT on a 5672 and try to leave the two CPU's at full load for a while, I'd appreciate to know what happens (to me, that resulted in system shutdown since it got past the limit temperature of 90-something C.
Regards.

i have the 5672 and my HD laptop read 35C once, it usually idles around 31-33. my CPU temps idle usually at 54C, if im doing alot of tasks itll idle at 60 and if im gaming highest it ever went to was 71 and then the internal fan automatically went on and cools it back down to 65C

I have the same problem. Cant play any games more than half an hour; then the machine shuts completely down without a bluescreen nor any other warning..!
Has anybody found a solution to this problem, that doesn`t involve using a real tool ? -
If you are gaming, I don't think there are any circumstances where the 5672 can stay cool with any of the cooling mods. It's just too much heat for the design of the chassis.
It's a crazy to think you have to do that, but it's one way to save your laptop from an early hardware failure and you get to keep playing. -
I just bought an antec notebook cooler, (which fits perfectly under the aspire 5672) and its brought my cpu and hd temps down about an average of 10 degrees.

Ok; Thanks for the answers!
I thought I made a good bargain with this machine, but I was obviously wrong..
I like almost everything about it, except the heat. And Its a concern that a company can sell a laptop, that is somewhat useless, if the customer don`t tamper with it. What is the point with X1600 and 2Gb RAM if you cant use it when you need it? Its like selling a 600hp car, that can`t use gas.
Looks are deceiving hehe
Well enough complaining
I guess I`ll handle it back to the shop, get my money back and buy a iron AND a new computer. Two things that is great to own. But to try to combine these into one unit is madness. -
mine maxes at around 70 degrees on full load both cores. But you're talking about freezing england here lol...
Are my temperatures normal, or is my 5672 defective?
