Seems like I waited for ages and never bought a notebook. I skipped generations of them and since that time Acer came out with the Acer Travelmate 8371 to the USA HOWEVER after that time Lenovo trumped Acer with the new i7 models which provided superior battery life and performance.
I know the Acer line of i7 is due out and am going to wait to see what I will get.
My problem is that Lenovo X201S will run $1400 or more, and Im hoping Acer will be lower in price. Though I dont know how much quality will suffer on the Acer compared to the Lenovo.
Money doesn't grow on trees and so Im having a hard time justifying an expenditure of a notebook pc since I'll never get the money back. If I paid $1400 and knew I would get that and more back in return then it would be a justified cost of business.
But the return/reward factor is very important to me.
Waiting for the next batch of i7 Lightweight notebooks. -

No thanks. The CPU is too weak and uses way too much juice.
I need one with the 640LM CPU. Im not sure if Acer plans such a model or not at this time.
The Lenovo meets the CPU requirements I need right now with the X201S model along with battery life. Must have the same CPU. 640LM is the fastest right now in the lineup.
If I bought one right now it would be 640LM. However if newer better CPUs come out then its possible I could still get the 640LM since it will offer a good price/performance ratio.
So 640LM is really what I would get if I bought a laptop today. -
Timeline refresh is already out not yet hitting masses though.
It goes by the name of 3820/4820/5820 T/TG/TZ/ you get the idea. -
Adam... i agree that it would be stupid to buy the timeline with a Culv core2duo right now as the Arrandale updates should be here any time. But when...???
1. Could you provide some links to the models you mentioned...??
2. Also Do you have any link/info about the 1810 11.6" Series....??
Thanks -
Anyway this is just 1 submodel doesn't include TZ and T only TG, in addition Acer is known to have many variation of TG as well so, let wait until all the models are officially listed.
Because Acer don't sell direct so how fast resellers get them will vary as well. -
Lenovo seems to get higher marks than Acer generally.
The problem with the X201s is that the screens arent as good as they should be but I guess they establish it is a business class machine.
Will be interesting to see how the Travelmate which has the MATTE Screen when it comes out with i7 will compare with the Lenovo. Shouldn't be that long.
