I have an Aspire 5153-2153 laptop, about 1 year old, running Windows Vista. From day 1 , it seemed that anything took an unusually long time to make happen....opening windows, and especially booting up and shutting down. Now, it takes unbelievable amounts of time to do anything....literally 5 minutes to boot or shutdown...starting internet explorer takes so long, sometimes the hour glass cursor just gives up! lol....I never have had a laptop before, but with my desktop pc's, when things get funky and slow, I simply reformat and reinstall windows. This didn't come with any windows discs however. I mean, this can't possibly be an acceptable business practice, of selling laptops that bog down so incredibly? Is acer aware of it? I've run anti-virus and ad aware programs, didn't make an iota of difference. What are my options? Thanks

    check out that thread...

you need to upgrade the RAM to 2 or 3gigs,,
then upgrade to a CORE 2 DUO... T7300, T8300,, or higher!!
if things are still too slow.... then switch to XP PRO

acer sold us the bare minimum specs just to run VISTA... once you try to run actual software in addition to the OS it cripples the machine due to it's lack of RAM and CPU... not to mention that BOATED OS called vista..

that link at the top of this post covers all i've mentioned and much more...
i've already done the upgrades and they can turn the 5315 into a nice laptop... but we'll always have crap graphics.

I've done some of the upgrades. I've got a 5315, upgraded to 2gb ram, upgraded the processor to T7500. Works a treat. I also got a new hard drive but this was due to the original one screwing up, which meant i had to reinstall everything, this helped in a sense as i got rid of all the crap that came with the laptop.

All in all my laptop runs like a gem. The thread is a real helpfull tool. Definatley worth checking out.

Theres also a thread about tweaking vista, things you can do to make the system run smoother and quicker, i'vew done some of these aswell and this made a difference. Heres the link:

If you are considering re-installing windows, check to see if the laptop has the product key underneath. If it has, then just get another copy of windows if you have one (you mentioned re-installing windows on your desktop so i guess you have), and use the product key from your laptop. I did this on mine. If you havn't got the product key theres a handy bit of software you can use to get it you can find this at http://www.magicaljellybean.com/, it retrieves your product keys for you.

(Edit: if you did re-install, might be worth downloading all you drivers first from acer and burning them to disk, then re-install, i had an absolute nightmare without the wireless driver and the ethernet driver).
