So I finally got around to asked Acer about the cost of a replacement fan for my Aspire 5100. In reply I was told I'd have to speak with a tech support representative and that would cost me $50. Couldn't even tell the the price of a part. No more Acer for me, thanks.![]()

Haha, I have a problem with my BD and asked Tech support. There answer: "Please install the original Vista soft that was installed when purchased first and then come back again." Funny, since I received the Win7 upgrade from them to begin with.

I say you should just DIY. -

Looks like will have to start asking Acer all our questions before our 1-year warranty support period is up. Ask everything you always wanted to know about an Acer within the year. LOL

My only question for them was "how do I purchase a replacement fan for my Aspire 5100". Their reply was basically give us $59 and we'll tell you, maybe.

Tough luck. Try going to a computer store and ask em there. And I mean a real computer store, not a multimedia supermarket with geeks that just know how to sell.

Can you pull the fan and post dimensions? You might be able to hack a generic fan in place of the stock one.

23.ABHV5.001 is the part number from the service guide. google shopping shows it around $20-$30. I am sure you can probably find it cheaper on ebay.

Hey, it gets better. Decided to replay saying thanks for their help. This is their reply:
"Dear x,
Thank you for contacting Acer America. I would be happy to assist you with the issue related with the fan.
Please contact a local store to purchase." -
I think they tried to push you towards their pay-for Ask Acer service.
They should be providing free over-the-phone tech support if you're still under warranty. -
