I have an Aspire 5610 with 2G ram running vista home premium. I had a few explorer windows open, and was getting memory warnings. I shut a few windows down, and a few hours later, the screen turned blank. I reboot the computer, but the problem persists. Now it turns out if I remove the power supply, and run it on battery, everything is fine. As soon as I instert the power supply chord, screen goes blank (black). Upon removing the power supply, if I shut and open the screen, it works again (and it also shows me a warning message that the wireless is in use, and if I really want to turn the antenna off).
The screen obviously is fine, as it runs fine on battery. I don't understand what is happening as soon as I insert the power supply, and why upon removing the power supply, I get a warning on turning off the antenna.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Much appreciated.
Thx.

You could always try system restore to a point before this happened.

I never heard of that before. Right, I have a million of questions now!
You said you were getting memory warnings can you remember what they were saying?
Screen goes black but is the laptop still working?
For example, playing a video/audio file on battery and then plug in the power cable, screen goes black, do you hear the video/audio still playing?
Are the laptop's lights still on?
Do you know any other specs of your laptop?
Does the battery get recharged by the power cable when laptop is off?
Can you use another power adaptor, maybe?
Is the screen black or off? If you take a flashlight can you see the windows icons? Can you see the mouse pointer and move it around?
Probably is the power adaptor or DC port in your laptop.
or
Is it possible that it could be set to turn off when power cord plugged in?
Check the power options or change them to the default values and then pick the high performance one. -
You would just love to have this in front of you
I would !
