Hello! My Hard Disk broke and so I had to re-install the OS, which is Windows XP, and instead of using back up CDs made with Acer backup tool I went for a fresh installation. And I have a very big problem, I cannot find the right drivers for the soundcard. I tried from Acer's site, downloaded for both 1640 and 1640 z, no luck. Than I tried the drivers I got from Realtek's website (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver). Still no go. Searching around the net gets me nowhere, I cannot find these damn drivers.
In GNU/Linux everything works fine, alsa mixer uses HDA Intel driver, while OSS mixer uses Realtek ACL260 driver (for which the Realtek's High Definition audio driver for Windows should work, but it does not).
So I am running a bit out of ideas and wonder if there is anyone here who could help me with this issue.

Did you install Microsoft's UAA audio driver first, then try the Realtek driver?

If you downloaded the audio driver from Realtek and extracted, look for the folder MSHDQFE, which has the UAA audio driver. This alone should not give you audio but it will provide the interface for connecting to your audio card. When you install this, it should detect your sound card in which you should provide it with the location of the Realtek files.

    Good luck.

Hi! Thanks for the advice, although it didn't help... just some patches in this dir, and I already had all of them installed. So, it's not MSHDQFE that I am after. Could it be because I integrated the beta of service pack 3? But I'd say it shouldn't mess my audio.
