Hi there. I have been reading all of the previous tag re the Travelmate 4501. Unfortunatly it is not available where i am getting my computer so i will need to look at the 1682. I can live with the Xp-Home and the additional H.D. The concern was of course was the battery. I was thinking of getting the 4501 battery as an additional to the order. Does anyone know if this is available. On the Acer site (Canada) it does not list specs on the battery mode number (LC.BPT03.003) Also is there another place for batteries that i am not aware of. I live in Victoria on the westcoast. Also with the all in one design can you still upgrade the H.D. down the road. Any feedback would be a great help.

I'm assuming you meant to say 1681 rather than 1682. With the 1681 models, the battery is only rated for 2.5hrs because of the 4 cell battery. You should be able to get this part from the shop you're buying from. They can order it from Acer. If not the shop, then at least an Acer Repair Centre in your area. They should be able to order the part for you.

Regarding the HDD, you will still be able to upgrade the HDD even though it's an all in one design. I believe the all in one design just means that all the ports are on the unit. The 4501 has an optional Port Replicator that you can attach for the rest of the ports. This allows you to connect all your cables to the Port Rep and when you leave, just pull the Port Rep rather than all the cables. Therefore saving you time. The HDD bay is located on the underside of the unit. You just remove a screw and you're all set to swap. This information is on the Acer Support site. Just get the User Guide and it's in there.

Well i took the plunge and ordered the 1681 last week. Can't wait till it arrives. I also ordered the extra battery.I will say that Acer parts have no clue as to what the make up of the cell is. I have contacted the parts centre in Texas and after 45 minutes they still couldn't find any information out.
