Can anyone point me in a direction to find an Acer Aspire 1800 to look at and possibly buy? Is it just me or are the Acer products hard to find?

I'm looking for a DTR for gaming. I guess the PCIE GPU's and the other than Dell 9800's are a ways off. I need a 17 inch screen and I want a good GPU. I also don't want to wait until next year.

    Any help?

If you live in the US, Acer is just hard to find. They're fairly new to the US market, but have been out for a while in Canada. The 1800 just came out recently, so I don't know if there would be a lot of stores that actually have it on display. You can see pictures of the unit on the Acer site. Try checking out Acer's "Where To Buy" link on their site, should give you some locations in you city (if your in US/Canada).

Give us some more info on what you're looking for in a system, include price range, features, what you'll be using it for, importance of battery life, and other brands/models you've looked at. This way, we'll be able to narrow down the recommendations.

So that's it, they've not been in the US long. That explains a lot. If I follow their "Where to Buy" links for the US, I can find a few accessories and that's about it for the 1800.

Basically I like the Dell XPS if it only had a 17" screen. I'm excitedly waiting for the Sager np9860 that's supposed to have the latest mobile PCIE card in it with a 17" screen. Now I'm hearing that might not be out until next year? I can't wait that long.

I want a system for as far under $3000 as possible, with 17", 9800 or PCIE card, at least gig of good RAM, faster processor, at least 7200 rpm hard drive.

IDEAL: All of the above with AMD64 processor and X800 or X900 PCIE card(not sure which is which).

I want it to replace desktop and to play high end/latest games such as the Battlefield series. I'm taking a job on the road, living out of hotel rooms. I want to be able to play games while talking with friends to keep in touch.

    Thanks

    1. Currently, the only notebooks that have the ATI 9800 GPU are Dell's. The had exclusive rights until recently, but I doubt anybody will use the 9800, especially when the ATI X series GPU's are out.

    2. The Acer 1800's are available, supposedly a user on this site said that he got/ordered one already. I'll see if I can find the post. Try calling/emailling Acer and see if they can tell you specifically what shops they sold 1800's to in your area.

    3. The X800's probably won't be out on notebooks until next year. The X600 is supposedly the first X series available for notebooks. So if you want an X series card, you're gonna have to stick with the Acer for the moment. ECS was suppsoed to release a model, but was held back for some reason.

    4. You should be able to play Battlefield with an ATI 9700 GPU or an Nvidia Go5700 GPU. You don't need the latest GPU in the market. I believe Doom 3 requires a more powerful GPU than Battlefield. But if you must have the lastest, you're gonna have to wait longer, othewise settle for something less.

There are some places in canada that sell that acer model, i'm sure you could purchase it from mymicro.com, for around $2400 Canadian so it would be even cheaper in the States. You should check them out, I bought my 4501, from them.

    Love my Acer TravelMate 4501 :) !
