    Hi All,

I've now had my 1801WSMi for a month and I'm still finding weird problems. I've been through the UDMA 2 problems and fixed it with bios update 2.50. I now noticed that if I boot windows XP from cold with any type of CD (data, music etc) in the drive that it can take up to 2 minutes to boot. When its fully booted, windows is slow and I've now noticed that device 0 and 1 of the primary UDMA controller and both running PIO???? If I boot from warm with a cd in the drive or boot without a cd in the drive then everythings ok and the drive runs UDMA mode 5.

I've tried re-installing from scratch (back to factory install) and I get the same problem.

Its just a pain in the ar$e to remember to eject any CD before booting up all the time.

Can someone with a 1800 boot from cold with a cd in the drive and see what they get? My 1800 is using the DVD super multi (GSA-4080N).

    Your help would be appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Wayne.

I have no problems during cold booting with my 1804 model. It has got the same DVD-drive as yours. My first thought was that you may have the booting sequence set to DVD first and HDD later, but then you mention that warm reboot is no problem. I can't seem to reproduce your problem. Have you contacted Acer?

    Hi there,
I have a 1801 also and have not experienced this problem.
My laptop had the QSI CD-RW/DVD combo drive, which i've swapped out for a pioneer K14RA DVD-Dual drive - neither of which gave the problem you described.
