Ok, this one is driving me nuts, I've googled this problem in the past 6 months, and still have no solution whatsoever. The closest thing that matched the problem came from previous posts in this forum (Yes, I've seen the past 4 or 5 threads on the subject also without solution).

The problem happens sporadically, when I turn on the computer it happens about each 1 out of 4 times.

At first, I've tried to recover and reinstall Windows XP, without connecting the network device: No results, the problem persisted.

I bought Norton Antivirus 2005, installed, updated and tested, with no luck. Also the following Adsoft detectors: AdwareSpy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, Norton AntiVirus, Spybot - Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster, among other few, and got nothing.

Has anyone ever found a solution for this problem?

    Grateful,
    Alz

    Hey guys,

Updating to anyone who had the problem: I've noticed every time the SVCHOST gets up to 100%, Launch Manager doesn't respond or loads properly. Coincidence?

So, I've tried to uninstall Acer's Launch Manager. So far, no problems, let's see if that will keep up.

BTW: I've tracked down the resource hog SVCHOST's PID and checked a detailed process information using: "TASKLIST /SVC" at Command Prompt.

    Image Name PID Services
    ========================= ====== =============================================
SVCHOST.EXE 1344 AudioSrv, BITS, CryptSvc, Dhcp, dmserver,
    ERSvc, EventSystem,
    FastUserSwitchingCompatibility, Irmon,
    lanmanworkstation, Netman, Nla, RasMan,
    Schedule, seclogon, SENS, SharedAccess,
    ShellHWDetection, TapiSrv, Themes, W32Time,
    winmgmt, wscsvc, wuauserv, WZCSVC

I've checked most of these processes and they seem legitimate, so I am assuming it could be interference from another app. I'll keep you guys posted...

    Oooookay.

Uninstalled Launch Manager, it seems the problem ceased. Just for the record.

Actually, this issue has been reported on the site with this exact solution/workaround. The Acer Launch Manager is the cause of the problem, once unloaded/uninstalled, everything worked fine.

That's kinda good and bad: to know the problem was diagnosed, and bad because I've never found any direct references that points to that.

Let's hope the next guy with the problem can spot this topic on Google easily. [ :D]

I had this twice, 1st time I found a file called svchosting under C:windowssystem32 deleted it.

About a week later I had the same issue this time it was the msck.exe C:WINDOWSSYSTEM deleted it as well as:

    ossproxy.exe
    osmim.dll
    okshook.dll
    osconfig.dll
    csloa.dll
    nsconfig.dll
    nsconfig.dll
    nsconfig.inf

Most of these were in the registry, oh I also did this in safe mode, except for ossproxy.exe I had to delete him in safe mode with command prompt. Rebooted everything works fine except no network deleted all my network information and reinstalled TCP/IP everything works fine.

    Hope this helps.

    Alz Brain,

I did what you mentioned about removing the lauch manager but my computer still has the issue. Are you SURE yours works fine now?
My computer still loads up sometimes without sound and is really slow.
Can you try putting yours on stand by and then turn it back on after leaving it for a while on stand by.

I'm just wondering because I'm really frustrated that your solution did not work for my 2012wlmi.

    later,

    Tony
