Suddenly my aspire shut down. it now turns on with out me pressing the power button, but soon as i attach the battery or ac adaptor. The screen stay black, the fan stays on and nothing loads. The power light is blinking yellow. It's out of warenty (just over a year old). Others have had this problem any help would be greatly apperiated thx

If applying thermal grease fixes this problem, how do you do it? And can you use anythhing eles instead of this?

Applying new thermal paste doesn't sound like the answer. Have you tried a cooling pad on it (if overheating is even the issue)?

Have new Aspire 9500 - similar problem - forgot to plug in AC adaptor, so it ran down the battery. If the power LED isn't green, it suggests a battery problem. Try booting from a CD (hit F2/F12 on startup) to change startup options

the thing is the screen stays black, so i can't do anything. The power light blinks yellow even with the battery out and the AC Adaptor plugged in. :(

Just off the top of my head, have you tried another battery? Are you sure nothing's loading? Plug in another monitor if you have a video-out port.
