    Hi everyone,
I bought my gf the Acer Aspire 3023 about 6 months ago and now she's got problems with it.
The only thing she has installed on it is Civ 4 and some pictures. However, recently, every time she tries to watch a DVD, the DVD goes slow, so the movie is almost in slow motion. This suddenly started about a couple of weeks ago, and it always does it, no matter what DVD is tried. Also recently she says Civ has started to become slower. I can't understand this as it has 512M of memory and a Sempron 3000+, so for what she uses it for it shouldn't be slow, certainly should be able to play movies properly.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a known problem? And any idea how to fix it?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help you can give me.
    :)

have you run virus scans and scanned for spyware? i would do that just in case....

from your info though, it sounds like the optical drive is malfunctioning. you should make sure that the optical drive is properly connected to the notebook. i believe that acers come with a 1 year warranty, so if you can't seem to solve your problem, i would consider contacting acer tech support.

Or maby Win XP reverted back to PIO mode for secondary channel. Go to device manager and uninstall secondary IDE, than reboot and let OS install drivers again
