    Hello,

I'm thinking about upgrading my aspire 3023, current specs are:
    AMD Sempron 3000+ mobile processor
    1,25 Gb PC2700 DDR SDRAM
    ATI Mobility Radeon X700
    80 Gb, 4200 RPM, Ultra-ATA HDD

So, would upgrading to 2 gig ram, faster hard drive (5400 or 7200) and AMD Sempron 3300+ processor give me a significant (or a least noticable) increase in performance??

Do I have any other options with processor upgrade? It is socket 754.

Is there any way to conect SATA HDD in place of my old drive.

    Thank you for any help

To be honest much better idea is to buy a new laptop. But if you really want to upgrade everything depends on what are you going to do on this machine. If you think about gaming there is no reason to update anything since you can't update Radeon X700. If you think about general performance (windows, internet, video etc.) here is what you can do:

-buy another 1 gb of ram (only if you plan to use vista)

    - faster and bigger hdd (for example 160 gb 5400 rpm) - but remember you can't use today's sata hdd, you need ata 100 hdd

    - faster processor - you need something with socket 754 and 25W:

best option is Turion 64 MT-40 (2,2 ghz and 1024 kb cache). Of course you can't use Turion X2 so you can only get 1 core processor.

    After this upgrades you get:

    - more hdd space
    - faster overall performance (but not significant)
    - almost no difference with 3d performance

In my opinion only bigger disk is worth to buy, and on your laptop XP is much wiser choice than vista

I had an acer aspire 3000 last week that was similar to yours. It was slow
If I were you I'd only spend up to $100 for upgrades.

You're guys right, upgrade makes only sense if I can get a bargain on ebay.

    Thank you

So, I would like to report a succesful upgrade.

New processor AMD Turion 64 MT-40 and 2 Gb of ram. Processor costed me 15 GBP and ram module 18 from ebay. Disasembly took me 1,5 hour, it all went smooth without any problems.

Can't tell yet if I see any increase in performance, but I have got results from PCMark05

    Before:
    CPU 1270
    Memory 1559

    After
    CPU 3133
    Memory 1660

    Thanks for attention

Hi, i'm newbie. I bought and mounted a Turion ML-44 but the system isn't stable. I can use my laptop only with rmclock downvolting up to 0.800 vid and 800mhz. Is this CPU not compatible with this system?
